It was nice to see a packed house. This is how High School games should be. It was a fun evening. Congrats to the Bulldogs.

I might be in the minority but there bench just isn't there.

Holmes is still the best team in nky but Newport is second no dis-respect to Boone but Newport is just that good this year.

 

 

Agree, Newport is at the very least a top 3 NKY team.

Newport will need to develop there bench if they are going to win the big games. Congats to Holmes on a nice win!

 

The coach is scared to play the bench.He has e couple kids on the bench that could give the starters a few minutes rest.Before this tournament he was using the bench IMO i think he just wanted to make sure Newport played Holmes again.

EP definately dunks with style. Something that comes with Practice. The crowd is almost frozen in position during the dunk.

 

I have seen hundreds of Holmes games and I think a shot block record may have been set last night. I think this was the difference in the game. Does anyone have stats on how many blocked shots Holmes had? I give Newport credit they kept going inside and their shots kept going back out. Pittman was a beast.

Nice pics Panda. Pittman had a few hard jams tonight but the best one of the night was when Ricardo Johnson drove the baseline, Foster tried to jump with him, and he ended up getting posterized as Ric threw it down hard with two hands.

 

JJ also had a pretty nice dunk over Tucker, as you can see from your pics.

 

All in all, I felt Holmes played very well tonight. Newport is just that good. If they had more depth, they'd be a top 3 team in the region, hands down. They have a ton of athleticism and Luther's put back jam was very nice.

 

Holmes pushed their lead out to 7 points a couple times tonight but Newport continued to fight back until late in the game when Holmes stepped up their pressure and got several turnovers in a row to push the lead out far enough to force the Wildcats to start settling for 3 pointers. Newport had a chance to tie when they were down 52-49 but a 3 rimmed out for Luther and Rice got a huge rebound and made one of two to give Holmes a 4 point lead. Holmes closed the game on a 9-2 run to put the game away for good.

 

Very nice game by both teams. Luther is the real deal for Newport. Like Clyde said, kid has really nice hops.

 

The stat of the night though: 3 Holmes players with double doubles

 

Elijah Pittman: 17 points, 11 rebounds

Ricardo Johnson: 15 points, 10 rebounds

Jeremiah Johnson: 12 points, 10 rebounds

 

Thats 33 rebounds, were they the only people with rebounds or were there that many misses?

Shot at buzzer first half to give Holmes the boost and the lead, notice the Newport player pointing, Luther did this in an earlier photo....why is that?

Holmes had 44 total rebounds as a team (31 between EP, RJ, JJ). Not sure about Newport.

 

Holmes was 22-42 from the field. So if they had 20 misses, I'm assuming Newport also took a lot of shots and had a lot of misses as well for Holmes to have totaled that many rebounds. There were also several misses from the free throw line by both teams as well.

I don't know about that. Remember that Holmes played this game without Avery last night too. That makes a big difference having a starter out. Newport can definetly compete with them, but in a 10 game series, I'm not sure if Newport would even beat them twice, let alone 4 or 5 times.

 

Okay I went a little over board with that statement lol. But seriously Newport showed last night why they have only lost 2 games. And those 2 games being to one of the top teams in the state. Dont take this the wrong way but before last night I thought Newport beating all those teams was a fluke only because of Newports past in athletics. But they showed last night that they are one of the better schools up in here NKy.
