Proposal #1 - In regards to public schools

Alright I admit I missed this on my read through last week, but did anyone catch the fact that kids at public schools who live outside the geographic boundaries of your district are ineligible for 1 year of high schools sports. This has nothing to do with transfers, but just strictly is a matter of residency.

Just for perspective I have two children whose best friends just happen to live outside of Ft. Thomas. The parents of these two children are wealthy and have a VERY nice home, however, they did not like the school district in which their home is located. Therefore, since kindergarten they have attended Ft. Thomas schools. However, once they get to 9th grade they will be ineligible for 1 year because of this rule.

Most kids who will have to sit out will be frosh so it will have little impact at the varsity level. So, the unspoken purpose of this proposal will fail as it will not prevent out-of-district kids from competing for Lexington Catholic or Highlands at the varsity level.

These proposals are intended to keep kids from attending because they don't want to give up a year.

Basically the same effect that the 20 mile provision will have on private schools.

A kid from Oldham County (the part outside the 20 mile radius from Trinity) who has been is Catholic school since 1st grade and decides to continue his education at a Catholis school. The closest Catholic High School is Trinity. He would be inelligibe his freshamn year.

I have to disagree with you on this. I think making a kid who has attended a school previously sit out could hurt the kid dramatically in athletics when compared to his peers that don't have to sit out.

What right does the state have to tell me as a parent where I can send my child. This thought process drives me crazy.

Do you find it fair that a kid going to a school at the start of his freshman year must sit out of year just because of where he lives?

If its all about education and not about athletics then why are we getting so mad about this rule? I think they should go even further and say in Jefferson County, if you go to a school outside of your resides area you got to sit a year. These proposals are about recruiting. Public schools are complaining that the private schools recruit. Well in Jefferson County just about every public school ilegally recruits. So I say set this for resides areas. What sickens me most is everyone wants to lie and act like this stuff doesn't go on.

I know you have proof it does and your not just basing this off an opinion.

School specific recruiting allegations are against the rules on BGP. Such information should be reported to the KHSAA.

Please all, if you have the information, get it to the KHSAA, but BGP will NOT tolerate such discussion specific to schools.

Do not attempt to get a member to divulge information by posting it in a thread, as this will lead to that poster breaking the rules.

Sorry was just offended, if people are accusing your or my school of choice of breaking the rules I would just like them to be held accountable.

I'm with you, BS, but BGP is not the place for such specifics. :thumb:

ANY school, public or private, needs to abide by the rules. If anyone has information to the contrary, it's best given to the appropriate authorities, not bandied around on BGP. We (BGP posters) are not in any position to confirm, deny or investigate illegal activities...that's why the rule is in place; as well as to protect everyone from rumors, speculation, etc.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'm aware of the rules but thanks for the warning. I'm just saying recruiting is a problem in Jefferson County. Face it. Everyone directly involved with school sports programs knows its true. And I'm not defending the public schools against this even though I belong to one. KHSAA won't go by heresay and coaches aren't stupid enough to write out handwritten invitations to come to their school to play sports. You almost have to have them on video with audio. Its very hard to crack down on and people know it and take advantage of it.
