December 26, 200916 yr CNN reports that a passenger on Northwest Airlines Flight 253, an Airbus 330, originating from Amsterdam, Netherlands and flying to Detroit, Michigan, ignited a small explosive device that resulted in some minor injuries to one or two passengers, and to the suspect, who was being treated for burns resulting from the incident. The suspect, identified as a Nigerian national, was immediately subdued, according to Susan Elliott, a spokesperson for Delta, the parent company of Northwest. There were 278 passengers aboard the nine-hour flight from Amsterdam. CNN reports the incident occurred either on approach or on landing in Detroit and that "the White House is calling today's Northwest Airlines incident an attempted terrorist attack." http://www.opednews.com/articles/BREAKING-Terrorism-Attemp-by-Linda-Milazzo-091225-582.html
December 26, 200916 yr Saw this earlier. The robotic stuff we have is pretty awesome. I don't know if anybody else saw it but they sent a robot that looked like #5 from the movie Short Circut in to do a sweep of the plane when it got in Detroit. Pretty cool! The guy they got was on the watch list.
December 26, 200916 yr On the watch list yet still is able to board? Maybe they should stop concentrating on non revenue passengers, seemed like every time I flew as an employee I was picked for search.

December 26, 200916 yr I just do not see the reasoning for the new rules that went into effect today. An hour before landing passengers must stay in their seats, not have anything on their laps, including laptops, pillows and blankets? How is that going to stop anything? It will just make someone try before the one hour limit. If he was on the watch list or do nit fly list which they said he was, they had him there, sounds like either someone did not do their job or the system is flawed.
December 26, 200916 yr Yup, I got searched in Florida when coming home too, was kinda awkward but I didn't care. I haven't been searched, yet, but I would not care. I do not think profiling is wrong either, if you have an Arab name, Muslim, Nigerian ect, they should not care either, if they are not hiding anything. I do believe in rights and all, but this is a situation that security is more important. If they do not like being profiled for a search, then don't fly.

December 27, 200916 yr He was not on the do not fly list. As I said, the watch list OR the do not fly list. Those on the watch list are supposed to be thoroughly searched.
December 27, 200916 yr As I said, the watch list OR the do not fly list. Those on the watch list are supposed to be thoroughly searched. He wasn't on the list for additional security checks at the airport. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_airliner_attack
December 27, 200916 yr He wasn't on the list for additional security checks at the airport. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_airliner_attack Some reporters must have not understood which lists he was on and not on. "The suspect, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, was on a government master list called the Terrorist Identities Datamart environment, or TIDE. There are are more than 500,000 people on the list, but Abdulmutallab did not appear on any subset list and would not have been prohibited from flying." http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/12/26/obama-officials-ponder-formal-inquiry-terror-list-used/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%253A+foxnews%252Fpolitics+%2528FOXNews.com+-+Politics%2529

It says that in the article you quoted. Obviously that was wrong. But that's why he wasn't searched.
December 27, 200916 yr Some reporters must have not understood which lists he was on and not on. Ok, after some checking , I see where they made their mistake, as I seen it in other publications and on one of the national news broadcasts last night too. Over 550,000 are on the TIDE list, which appears to be an international list. About 400,000 are on the US Terrorist Screening Data Base list, of which over 13,000 are on the Selectee/watch list, and under 4,000 of those are on the no-fly list. It appears he was not on the last two lists mentioned.
December 27, 200916 yr Just prepare for time consuming and meaningless flying rules. I now hear on international flights you may not leave your seat.
December 27, 200916 yr Just prepare for time consuming and meaningless flying rules. I now hear on international flights you may not leave your seat. I don't think they're meaningless at all if it saves American lives...
