Then, with the new rules, he would have went to the restroom before the last hour of the flight. The issue is how to stop people from getting this stuff on the plane, once it is on the plane, its too late and no rules will stop something from happening.

I was referring to post #14 that said there are talks about not being able to leave your seat during an international flight. While this is remarkably inconvenient and I do not entirely agree with it, I can see how it can reduce the threat of an identical threat such as this one.

Then why wouldn't a potential attacker not do this before the last hour of the flight? The last two attempts to use an explosive device on a plane were thwarted by vigilante passengers who left their seats to subdue the would be attackers, so it seems restricting passengers further wouldn't do much in the way of increasing safety. This new rule seems to be one of those "doing something for the sake of doing something" policies.

The new rule is only for the last hour of all flights. I am headed overseas tomorrow and double checked this.

 

Plus, I can't see many people on a plane for 9+ hours and not get up to head to the rest room or to stretch a min.

I agree! The issue is still, how do they get this stuff on the plane?

 

Ever hear of El-Al having these issues? The Israeli airline is the one people would expect this to happen, yet is doesn't.

 

Seems like we need to adopt some of their security measures.

Today, the same flight had another Nigerian who was causing trouble, and was arrested when the flight landed.

I'm currently in Orlando Airport. Security is very tight here. TSA all over everywhere you look. Makes me wonder why it takes a threatening event such as friday's for them to tighten down on security.

Let me help save the government a lot of time and money.

 

I'll stand at the top of the security line and pick and choose who to search. It will be swift and efficient. I will have pre-screened the passenger list and done background work. There will be no long lines or shakedowns of old ladies and innocent citizens, and you won't have to dump your mouthwash. I will be every bit as accurate as the present security force with a whole lot less headaches.

 

I think that 99% of you could join my team. We could be amazing and make air travel enjoyable again. Right now, it's not. Political correctness be (sent to haties).

I agree, you, me and/or others could do a better job.

 

I am all for political correctness, unless it comes to security. If I go to a place where they are having these issues/problems with white Catholics and they pick me out to search because of it, I don't care, I would see they are doing their job and let them search me, then be on my way. Yes, we have rights, but we also have the right not to fly, if something is done for security bothers us too much.

The new rules are simply an outward sign that something is being done - as inane as it is.

 

Action-Reaction

Just spoke to someone who flew in from St Kitts and he said he and everyone trying to board the plane had to remove all items from carry on and prove that cameras were working cameras prior to boarding last night. The process was grueling. Flight delayed two hours to do all the extra checks prior to normal screening.
