Who would LOVE to see a UK-Duke game on the schedule?

Featured Replies

I think home and home is the only way to go. UK turns every neutral site into Rupp Arena on the road whether it's the Georgia Dome, Tampa, Indianapolis, Louisville, Maui or Mexico. Plus, Duke is always the bad guys at a neutral site, which is okay with me, but it'd be good to have the home crowd behind them.

The other poster is right, unless you are a Duke fan living in Kentucky, most Duke fans could care less about UK whereas UK fans hate Duke with the same passion of hate as that of UL, Indiana and Tennesee.

There's times on their board that there's as much anti-UK threads as there are anything about UNC or other ACC schools. Don't fool yourself, there's no love from Duke fans for BBN. It goes all the way back to their Final Four loss in '66 and the championship loss in '78.

Not sure Coach K would want to play in Rupp South:D

That's what I was thinking. UK fans travel better than any other fan base. I think any neutral court would turn into Rupp Arena.

As far as rivals of UK, there's only one major rival, and that is Louisville.

Years ago it was Tennessee when Ray Meyer's was coach, and when UK didn't play Louisville. Since the series resumed with Indiana in the early '70s they could be considered the 3rd rival, just behind Tennessee. North Carolina could move up the ladder right behind Louisville if they keep the series with UK going.

Then there's the pop-up rivals that flash by and desolve over a few years: LSU when Dale Brown was there. Arkansas in their Final Four years under Richardson. Florida in their national title runs.

But Louisville is a constant. It is number one. It is a 10 out of 10.

Notre Dame was a true rival back in the day. From 1936 to 1952 and 1958-1983, they played every year.

Getting back to the UK and Duke rival which is not. IMO I think a game between these two great programs would just add more excitement to College Basketball. So I say enough talk, lets make it happen.

Do not kid yourself in to the thinking the Blue Devils do view this as "just another team."

Actually they do view it as any other game.....they have their rivalries....and that's that....of course they respect UK and their tradition, but they aren't on their minds daily....as the vice versa is.

The only time I think of Duke is when you make these nut job comments. :jump:Maybe you are consumed with what you think UK fans think about daily.

So true. It's good to see there are some or a couple of UK fans on here who really don't care about Duke, but I think it's ironic that on this website UK fans start threads about Duke's non conference schedule and how weak it is, whether Coach K is any good anymore since he hasn't gotten past the Sweet 16 since 2004, how the 1999 Final Four banner should be taken down from Cameron.......etc, etc.

That may be just you, but the majority of the rest of UK fans are quite unlike you......

You are not understanding my post. Because of "UK and their tradition" is reason enough for Duke to look at UK differently. Part of their tradition includes some significant moments with Duke. Not just '92.

Look, my in-laws live in the triangle. My wife's family is made up of graduates, season ticket holders to, and loyal supporter of the Blue Devils. Unless them and their friends are lying to me, UK is not just another game to them. Sure, it is not a traditional rivalry, but it is something more than a meaningless game.

When they play, yes it's a big deal....they just are not consumed with UK, unless they are on the schedule...

I think this is where the confusion comes in. Not one Duke fan on here has referred to a Duke/UK game as a meaningless game. It is far from that. The only thing Duke fans are trying to say is that UK fans are more passionate in their hatred towards Duke than Duke is to UK. Do Duke fans hate UK fans? Yes, to the average Duke fan UK fans are every bit as arrogant and hard to live with as UNC fans, but Duke fans care more about Duke/UNC and likely Duke/Maryland than they do Duke/UK. That's not saying Duke doesn't hate or respect UK, it's just these games are traditionally bigger games with bigger meaning to Duke fans. Maybe if there were a regular game with UK there might be more to it, but it's hard to call someone a rival when you play them 4 times in a decade, if that. I think some people are taking things the wrong way when Duke fans try to explain to them that we honestly care more about the UNC/Maryland games than a Duke/UK game. I would welcome a UK game, I enjoy bragging rights and endless replays of "The Shot" when these two teams play, but in a general discussion when I or any other Duke fans says big deal about UK, it's because who knows if and when these teams will play, not because we don't care. It's up to the selection committee.
