According to the Courier-Journal it's down to UK and UofL. Central star linebacker Tim Patterson will be visiting UofL on January 8th then make his decision. Patterson is thought to be the top D1 prospect in the state.

 

An interesting quote from the article:

 

"If coach (Steve) Kragthorpe was still (at Louisville) then we would be talking about him at UK right now," Scroggins said. "Now, he has a decision to make."

 

It looks like the hiring of Strong at least gave UofL a shot, but is it too little too late for UofL? Did UK have to much of a lead for his services to overcome in a short time period?

Hopefully Patterson will choose UK, but if he doesn't we'll survive.

UK has since gone on and taking a few verbals from some solid recruits. What started off as a lackluster type class, UK has closed fairly strong and only has a few rides left.

I know they are wanting Miles Simpson and have been pressing him for a verbal and are very much in pursuit because they have been holding off some visits from other RB's until after the break.

I would venture to say they are wanting Simpson more than Patterson. At this stage Im almost willing to think that UK is looking at Patterson as a grayshirt.

Kind of like one of those deals where the longer it goes, you dont like your chances....kind of like the Teague recruitment in hoops.

I say Patterson to UL, and it will be trumpeted as the "poster child" recruit in the state of KY between UK and UL.

So you are saying that he is a great OC but his team could only score enough point in the last 5 seasons to win 16 games. Great OC but terrible HC. I don't think he will have the talent at UL he had with Urban Meyer.

I'm saying that he was a successful assistant at many programs, before doing poorly at UNLV. UofL could easily have the talent that Meyer did at Utah. He's a proven assistant, and that's what he'll be asked to do at UofL. Not be a head coach. From what I've read on the UNLV situation, it was a good one. No support from the admin, etc.

 

If you just want to talk about W/L's when evaluating the potential of a coach...

 

Rich Brooks had a career losing record at Oregon before coming to UK. He's done well hasn't he? Of course, he still has a career losing record and a losing record at UK---and he's a head coach not an assistant. But most would consider him successful.

Now if he called UK and said I want to come, they would take him. I just dont think he is the priority now that he once was. If they had not gotten some of the kids they have been able to get over the last few weeks from out of state and they have gotten some really good ones particularly on defense and so forth, then Patterson would be a must.

When you are limited on rides and you can wait on some kids i.e. Simpson that you really want...and move on from others.

Getting a few of these kids recently lessened the need per se for Patterson.

I have heard he will end up at a junior college or prep school as a non-qualifier. That is the story out there.

Are you serious? Some guys move on to HC jobs and don't win. Sometimes it's the talent level and sometimes it's that the coach is better as just an OC or DC. He had success with Meyer and a guy who coached with him during the Meyer-years (Mullen) is also having success. Let's give the guy a chance.
