This is like the lost they had last season, everyone said that they weren't as good as we thought and they responded by beating Scott County. The Dawgs are fine but I'll agree that guard play is their question mark.

Hopefully someone who was at the game can give more details.

If Pittman's 5th was on an inbounds violation, that's tough. Kinda like Serena getting called for a foot-fault at a critical point in the match.

As I'm sure you know you don't get a foul much less a T for stepping on the line. What happened AFTER the violation is what got him the T.

But the rankings that REALLY matter are the BGP rankings.

Actually, all the rankings matter. It's fun to compare and contrast.

Let's have your rankings Les.

Well, well, well, what do you know. It looks as if I was dead-on right about Ballard even when many disagreed. Ballard is the top team in the 7th and now most believe tops in the state. Eastern will likely win the KOB, but Ballard will beat them when they meet.

Trinity did have an outstanding KOB and no one can deny that, but they are still 4th best in the 7th.

I agree, Ballard is best in the state. Too many times people forget about the Louisville schools.

You wouldn't like mine. So, I just keep it to myself.:ylsuper:

Huh? Are you kidding me?

Ballard 60, Holmes 52 - An explosive first quarter by Ballard gave them plenty of room to work as the Bruins outscored Holmes 21-12 in the opening eight minutes of play. Three three-point field goals were the only baskets the Bruins could convert from the field, but they still held on to a 31-22 lead at the half. Ballard extended their lead in the third quarter outscoring the Bulldogs 12-9 to take a twelve point lead into the final quarter. Even with senior Elijah Pittman in the locker room due to an ejection the Bulldogs managed to cut the Ballard lead to six points but couldn't get any closer as Ballard sealed the 60-52 win with seven fourth quarter free throws. Holmes was led by Ricardo Johnson with 18 points including 10 in the final quarter. Ian Chiles and Keisten Jones scored 14 points apiece for Ballard. The win advanced the Bruins to the consolation final.

Gotta learn to control your mouth and temper in during critical moments. Gotta show leadership during duress. I guess he is still learning.

Will Pittman be suspended for a game or two due to the ejection?

Will Pittman be suspended for a game or two due to the ejection?

My first thought as well. I think an ejection results in a two game suspension.

Is it an automatic reinstatement after the suspension or is there an appeal required before reinstatement? (I'm asking because I had heard that a coach ejection requires an appeal and a fine to be paid before reinstatement can occur. I didn't know if the process was the same for an athlete.)

Im not so sure but I can say that Ballard has a ton of athleticism.

Pittman and the Johnson's are also very athletic and also three year starters. I think the problem with Holmes is the loss of Riley. No doubt in my mind, he was their rock in '08. Still plenty of time left but you must have a solid PG to get it done come March.

Ballard came out firing on all cylinders tonight.

They jumped out to an 8-2 lead and then Holmes closed the gap to 12-9 but Ballard would go on a 9-3 run to head in to the second quarter up 21-12. Ballard wanted to push the ball and Holmes simply wasn't ready for it. Ballard scored from outside, at the line, and around the rim while also putting pressure on the Dogs to get unforced turnovers. Holmes was a step to slow and it showed early as Willie Slusher picked up 2 fouls within the first minute of the game.

Second quarter Holmes closed to within 24-18 early after a Pittman dunk, but Ballard would respond with a three pointer to go back ahead 27-18 and then 28-18 after a free throw. This would pretty much be the story of the game. Holmes once again got the lead down to just 6 at 28-22 right before the half but Ballard's Chiles hit a 3 from about 35 feet out at the buzzer to send the Bruins in the half up 31-22.

Second half was simply a game of runs.

Third Quarter Holmes scored first to make it a 7 point game at 31-24, but it'd be all Ballard from here on out. Bruins responded with an 8-0 run to push the lead to 15 at 39-24. Holmes would get the lead down to 11 at 39-28, but once again Ballard responded with a big 3 pointer and one of two free throws to push it out to a 15 point lead (43-28). Holmes scored the last 3 points of the quarter after a Jeremiah Johnson dunk and we'd head in to the 4th with Ballard up 43-31.

In the 4th quarter Holmes started with a 6-0 run to close the gap to 43-37 but a tech on Pittman after a blocked shot swung momentum back in Ballard's favor. Ballard made one of two free throws and then scored after getting the ball back to push the lead out to 9 at 46-37. Ballard pushed their lead to 50-40 with 2:43 left and then Holmes would make a comeback. Ricardo made a free throw and then got a steal and found Jeremiah Johnson for a 3 in the corner to make it a 6 point game. Holmes forced a turnover but on Ballard's out of bounds play Elijah Pittman received another tech for apparently saying something after being called for stepping on the line. Ballard made a free throw to push the lead to 51-46 and then scored on their possession to make it 53-46 with 1:54 left. Holmes then got back to back baskets from Rice and R. Johnson to close the gap to 53-50 with a little over a minute to go. Here came the backbreaker...Holmes forced a turnover on the in bounds play and Slusher put up a shot that was pinned against the backboard while coming down and no goaltend is called. Ballard would get the rebound and went down and made 5 free throws in between three Holmes misses to put them ahead 58-50. Rice scored with around 8 seconds left and Ballard scored at the buzzer on a breakaway lay up to give you the final of 60-52.

Ballard was the better team tonight, IMO. Holmes had the size advantage but really struggled with their quickness at both ends of the floor. Both teams sat in a 2-3 zone the whole game and a better shooting Ballard team took advantage of this. Holmes best offense was Ricardo Johnson going one on one in the fourth quarter.

Great finish by both teams, but IMO Holmes is at best the 5th best team in the state right now. I think Scott Co, Ballard, Clark Co, and Eastern would all beat them and honestly I'm not so sure Trinity and Seneca wouldn't beat them too.

Ballard is the best team in the state right now...PERIOD. They've knocked off both Holmes and Scott Co while also beating Trinity. This team is scary good and despite lacking size, make up for it with their quickness.
