I think there were some really bad calls. Seems like Highschool talent has made a great leap forward and the officials have not. They cannot work well at the speed the game is played. I feel like Trinity may have gotten the benefit of the doubt on some of the close calls, and the refs just blew some really easy ones!

A lot of no calls on charges and a lot of blocking calls when they should have been charges. Sewell was allowed to go to the boards strong all night and run through the defense with a no call. At one point a trinity player was laying half in bounds and half out of bounds and had the ball in his hands, the ref called trinity ball? He was standing on top of the play! A lot of the calls were not made by the ref closest to the play but by the ref across the floor. I realize it is not an exact science but the stats say something when you look at the desparity between the totals.:idunno:

Sewell and Epley are an underrated one-two combo. If they play this well the rest of the season, the Rocks will be hard to beat.

 

27-of-30 is an AMAZING stat, especially for a team with a lot of young players in the supporting cast.

Haven't seen the GRC squad yet but I was very impressed with Trinity already this year. They play very tough D with pressure and are very unselfish with the ball. I think they are a complete team and embrace the team aspects of basketball.........this will serve them well. Making free-throws is evidence of their solid discipline, they will be a tough out even in the loaded district/region.

The refs decided early on to let these fine two teams play. Both have very talented teams, but Trinity was MUCH more aggressive offensively, hence the disparity in free throws. Additionally, GRC has almost NO bench, while Szabo's team goes nine or 10 deep.

 

It's not rocket science, and no one got homered. GRC will watch tape and wonder why they let THS take it to them as much as they did. Congrats to the Rocks.

I was not at this game. The problem for GRC this year is that they have no point guard. They have got some true talent, but until they find someone who can run their offense they will have difficulty. Granted, Kindred has been out with an injury. I would also like to see someone step up and be a leader on this team. Zollo has somewhat taken this role, but I don't really see a true leader on this team. If GRC can develop a point guard they are going to be SCARY good! Go CARDS!!

So Clark was 9-16 on FTs and Trinity 27-30....you see when one team barely shoots 50% and the other shoots 90% I would expect there to be disparity in attempts because that's the way the bonus works--you make 1, you get to shoot another and if you miss the first, you don't get to shoot another. How many front ends did Clark miss compared to Trintiy?

According to the Courier-Journal, eight (8) of T's free throws were attempted in the last 44.1 seconds. Oftentimes late free throws result from the losing team's fouling in order to get the ball back. I don't know if that was the case in this game but it sounds like it could have been. BTW, Trinity made 7 of the 8.
