It is great to have a cheerleader on BGP. Sewell is a nice player, but didn't knock my socks off the times I have seen him. He is in a situation however, where an entire offense is run through him so he should put up some good numbers. I agree with Passtheball that when it gets down to tourney time Trinity will be left out once again.

 

Cheerleader? I just call it the way I see it. Sewell is having a great year and is putting up huge numbers against very good teams.

 

And the offense runs through him? You're kidding right? You do realize they have Corbett and Epley too? Epley is getting in the high teens as well on a nightly basis.

 

Elisha Justice is having those kind of numbers and bumped a defending Georgia (??) title holder.

 

Pettigrew had ridiculous ppg and rpg numbers and he was voted in the year votes came "before" the state tourney.

 

Hood played in the year the vote came after the tourney but already got the automatic bid via UK committment.

 

Its wide open.

 

Trinity's regular season, district, and LIT and 7th region tourney will all be tougher than the KOB because they will face the likes of Jtown, Ballard, Eastern, Seneca, in rows.

 

Like I said, they are having a very good KOB, but lots of season to play.

 

Miller Grove may have been the defending state champs but they aren't as good as advertised. They aren't even top 40 according to Maxpreps and Calpreps and they're currently 3-3.

 

Justice is a good player but wouldn't be putting up those numbers every night if he played in the 7th region. He is simply a man among boys in that 15th region. Like all good players, he dominates when the competition isn't up to par with him.

 

Bash Trinity all you want, but I stand by my statement that they will be in the thick of things when tournament time comes around. Their defense is better than Seneca and Ballard's.

 

I personally think Seneca will be the team that's left out come tourney time. Ballard is the best team in the state right now IMO.

 

Mr. Basketball may be wide open, but RIGHT NOW (I said this in my original post as well), Sewell is the favorite with his early season performances.

Unfortunately, that will be the only true competition he will face for a while. I think his coach has not scheduled well enough for him to win Mr. Basketball since many outside of his region will continue to question how he would fare against tough teams night in and out.

 

Sewell has been producing against the likes of Ballard, McEachen GA, and Clark Co. while the other big names(Rico,Pittman, Guyn, Jackson, Euton) have been having good games but not outstanding.

 

I agree that it is still early but I don't think you can fault Sewell if he continues to produce like this and Trinity doesn't get out of the district.

 

My guess would be that Trinity, Ballard, and Seneca may be ranked in the top 10 next week.

 

The offense does in fact run through Sewell. He will take the majority of Trinity's shots. That is not all together relevent with respect to Sewell game except that it will enable him a chance to have solid numbers.

 

There's no way you can debate who the better out-of-state team is, the one I mentioned or the team you noted. If there's any debate, the KOB team from Memphis was the best and most talented team in the KOB.

 

Trinity is playing solidly, as is Sewell. There's a lot of season left and Trinity can absolutely do some good things. But they could also miss the regionals and finish below .500 as well, and some wouldn't be shocked.

No bashing intended. I believe Sewell to be one of the top seniors in the state. With him, Trinity is a formidable team and playing well right now. I just believe it is early to be annointing Mr. Basketball, and there are other players who I WON'T name who are playing extremely well also...some of them however, do not have a team built around them and some do.

I never crowned Sewell as Mr. Basketball, but rather stated he was making a strong case as the front runner early in the season based on his play.
