September 19, 200521 yr Correct me if I'm wrong but won't this result in more money for the KHSAA? You're still talking St. X and Trinity State finals but you're adding another 4A size state final, like Manual/Male. They're not kicking priavates out of the KHSAA, just separating them into another division. I don't see where anyone would see this as bad for the KHSAA monetarily speaking. I promise you, we won't stick around to let them get the $$$$$ if they split it up...
September 19, 200521 yr I promise you, we won't stick around to let them get the $$$$$ if they split it up... I can see Trinity and X leaving but do you honestly anyone else would be able to?
September 19, 200521 yr I can see Trinity and X leaving but do you honestly anyone else would be able to? CCHS, and LexCath would survive as well.
September 20, 200521 yr From what my contacts in the 16th Region tell me, Cubster's reference to a private school having a major part of its team from outside its county of location is not a shot at St X or Trinity but, instead, a shot at a private school in the 64th District. Apparently, a couple of girls at Russell left last year and enrolled at a private school. Actually, my contacts tell me that the girls in question actually moved to Ashland from Russell prior to transferring. However, much because of Russell's efforts, those two girls are not eligible at their new school until the middle of December. Russell has picked up athletes from other schools in recent years. It is not ususual for publics to cry loudly to DeVries and associates when a private picks up some of their athletes. Unfortunately, when the movement is in the other direction, it is merely a legitimate transfer for good reason.
September 20, 200521 yr I would hope that, if the split occurs, our northern Kentucky private schools would seriously consider leaving the KHSAA. It certainly would be in the best interests of private schools located near the state border, like the northern Kentucky schools, Rose Hill, Louisville schools, and others to give it serious thought. There are plenty of schools, many better competition, in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia available for scheduling and, in many cases, these schools are closer geographically. On the other hand, what would KHSAA and its board of control do if they didn't have the privates to continually investigate?
September 20, 200521 yr According to KHSAA rules, developed by member schools, - no member school team could play another team in the state that had the opportunity to be a member school but chose not to. So . . . if the privates jumped out of the KHSAA then they would have to play each other and out of state competition - even during the regular season. What I don't understand is how YOU (general) cannot see that Lex Christian and Berea are different - they play by different rules, the only thing that connects them is size - everything else is different - why should they have to compete?
September 20, 200521 yr Private schools located near the border can find plenty of good competition outside the KHSAA. Take a look at what MMI is doing. For true credibility the KHSAA needs the privates. There would be little to be proud of if you win the football 4A championship without going through St X and Trinity. Also, in most years, the 11th Region basketball championship (boys or girls) without the participation of LexCath (and even LCA) is really a consolation prize. You are only the best if you can beat the best.
September 20, 200521 yr The KHSAA isn't investigating Private schools. I don't think they investigate anybody. Thats the whole problem behind all of this. If they were doing their jobs and weren't scared to lay down the iron fist on some rule breakers then people wouldn't be coming to them with these proposals.
September 20, 200521 yr St Thomas More, I have no problem with Rose Hill and their new players. They sat out the required year and will be eligible this season. I personally do not think it is a level playing field in any sport when schools can go out and hand pick their athletes. Minor sports are where it is most blatant. For those of you on here with blinders on about these schools not going after athletes WAKE UP!!!!!! Private schools do have a distinct advantage.

This is the exact arrogance that will not win the private schools any support in their battle to defeat this proposal but will give fuel to the fire of the supporters. If we (private schools) are not in it and it is just you (public schools) it is not WORTHY to be called a state championship. Because we are great and you are not. That attitude will not win you any supporters.

Unfortunately, when the movement is in the other direction, it is merely a legitimate transfer for good reason. I believe your contacts are a little off with their info. The move was following the dismissal of one girl from the Russell team after the season had started. The girls are sisters and when this happened, mom decided that either the one would be reinstated, or both would leave the team. Virtually the same situation had occurred the previous season and the same daughter was allowed back on the team with conditions. Second time around was no go, so mom pulled them out of Russell and enrolled them at Rose Hill. This was also the time when mom began a new job which required her to drive maybe 10 - 15 minutes further. That was the reason given to the KHSAA for the move. It didn't fly with them for good reason. As Cubster said, after the girls serve their one year, they will be eligible again. No problem with this from Russell. Get your facts straight before you begin speaking ill of someone else's intentions... :sssh:
September 22, 200521 yr I disagree. If it was all about sports or religion, maybe so. The reason I sent my kids to LC had nothing to do with sport or religion. There are many reason why people send their kids there. If sports is the only reason, I feel sorry for them. What if junior/juniorette blows his or her knee out sophomore year? Kind of screwed then... TWOKNIGHTS, Thank you! Can you tell us why you sent your kids to LC, instead of another school? I think some on here need to hear why...

I think the problem is that the privates most likely stay under the KHSAA. Sure, it seems like a moneymaker in theory, but I don't think it would work. Why would the private schools stay when they could get out of the KHSAA and start their own association, make just as much if not more money for themselves, and get more national exposure?
September 22, 200521 yr I promise you, we won't stick around to let them get the $$$$$ if they split it up... :thumb: :thumb: That's what I tried to say.
September 22, 200521 yr Actually, goherd96, the facts I have received are quite correct. In fact, my information comes from individuals who are not associated with either subject school. Obviously, yours are more of an editorial from a less than unbiased source. My objective in posting was to point out that Cubster was not referring to St X or Trinity. Your post, as well as that of Cubster, at least proved that point. I have nothing negative to say about Russell. Actually, its dedication to its own self interests is not any different that that of most other schools. I wish you and your Red Devils well.
