Surprised E. Brown didn't update? I believe that's 34 in a row for SK in the 32nd. Congrats on a tough game and great start.

Had to relax and eat after that game! :ohbrother: Wife made me throw in some holiday shopping on top.

WV's coach better change his style, or SK is going to beat them everytime.

Ref's tonight were just plain bad.

That WV team has a LOT of good players! They are all young on top of that.

I like his style of coaching. The team is 6-1 and one the first lost is the coaches fault. They are a team players and coaches. No ones fault WV just didn't come up on the winning end.

Walton led most of the game. During a stretch in the 4th quarter they had 6 straight trips down the floor with turnovers. Walton missed 3 out of 4 free throws late which didn't help. Walton did not get the ball inside enough, you can credit Simon's ball pressure on the guards. The game was very intense and I don't believe either coach went into his bag of tricks tonight. Both teams played straight up man to man the whole game, whether it was full court or half court. Wainscott was key down the stretch for Simon she handles the pressure so well. Should be another great game when they get together in Independence later in the year.

Sounds like a great game. Good luck to both teams throughout the season. I guarantee the next time they meet it will be another close game judging by this outcome.

I think the difference was that Dixon did not get the ball enough. She had her defender sealed several times and the guards did not get the ball into her. Instead, they chose to throw up a 3. When you go 1 for 12 (not sure exactly how many they attempted) from behind the arc, you better look for other options. Dixon has to be involved in the offense for them to be successful.

Yes I agree the ref's were terrible it was called Waltons way the whole game.

Good point madman. She is the key. Good luck to both teams. Congrats to SK

I felt the much more experienced guards of SK took over the game late. Once we picked up the pressure, the WV guards just could not handle it. I also thought by doing this, it completely took one of the best players in the region (Dixon WV) out of the game. Good job coach Stowers on making adjustments at half time to turn the game around. Great Job SK. :ylsuper:

I believe pressuring the WV guards is the key to beating them. Both in the half court and full court.

You must of been at a different game. If every hand check would of been called Simon would of run out of guards in the 1st half.

Good point - I totally agree.

Couldn't agree with you more.

Hand check is a foul?! LOL. I'd say you are right. It all depends on how the game is being called that night.

As it has been seemingly every year, the hand check/forearm shiver is supposed to be "a point of emphasis" again in 2009-10, but referees are still somehow missing the point. (Now chime in refs, we know you are out there and plugged in.) How in the world can a defender guide, shove, move, steer, etc, a dribbler to a designated spot on the floor, where a helpside defender has been drilled/trained to trap or give help, and this it not a foul? Clearly, the ball handler is at a tremendous disadvantage when this takes place, but ... it continues to happen and is increasing.

And make no mistake about it, defensive players ARE trained and drilled to do just this. The question begging to be asked is, "Why?" The answer to said question is this: in order to be able to remain competitive and/or gain a competitive advantage, coaches "do what they have to do" according to what the refs call. This happens because on the jumbo-sized screen, amongst the big-time games and teams at the college and pro levels, that's what players are allowed to do, hence keeps seeping down into high school - both girls and boys. Coaches watch this stuff on the tube, and so do the players and referees.

Some refs seem to call the hand stuff and ignore the forearm shiver. A very few of them are strong enough to apply the rule as it is written and intended, but these folks often get a reputation for calling too many "ticky-tack" fouls. And then some officals don't call any of it - and those games are rough and have the potential to possibly get out of hand. At any rate, the hand-check doesn't appear to be leaving the game any time soon. After all, despite being "a point of emphasis" for quite a few years now, it seems to be on the rise - kind of like our current H1N1 virus.
