Are you serious I can point out many examples of kids who went to Catholic School with me struggled and then went to public school and took softer class and brought their gpa up. Private schools expect the best out of every student. Where as some not all public schools only push to produce from their "upper" academic students. If you need examples I can post schools where this trues. There are a few in NKY who let the kids in "general" classes just squeak by get their diploma without any real effort or work put in.

 

I'm not sure what this has to do with this thread, however, you are making a big generalized statement. Comparing the academics of private vs public is a waste of time as it all comes down to the individual and his/her family. I can go into any private school and find kids that are coasting or "just getting by". Its a product of human nature and not public vs private.

Wow. This would lead to a country full of the very few "have's" and a whole bunch of "have nots". The illiteracy rate would become astronomical and we'd become nothing more than a 3rd world country in terms of education.

Federal government states in its Constitution that it must help with the general welfare of the population, and funding education is a high priority.

With your line of thinking, it would be awfully difficult to overcome the 14th Amendment of the US COnstitution.

Thankfully the more recent court decisions totally disagree with your point of view. Considering the fact that every STATE constitution has the responsiblity to provide education to their commonwealth/state and the responsibility further details it as adequate funding as necessary, the courts have found state legislatures, time and again in failure to their responsibility.

It is still socialism. The "state" should be able to force the local school district/taxpayer base to pay for the actual cost of the services provided instead of handing out welfare.

Do you think the current, strong independents would be able to survive under such a plan. I think you fail to understand that Beechwood has a horrible, limited growth economy. They have great homes and houses, but absent any substance of commercial activitity.

What if not establishing boundaries is a problem? The local residents elect the school board members to educate their children. A county/community school is established to educate that county/community not some other community's children. Now if you want the purpose of public schools to be athletics, fine, change the boundaries. But if you want the public schools mission of educating the students in that community to stay as is, then you make the guidelines for extracurricular activities to fit the guidelines of the school.

 

You are talking out of both sides of your mouth! You need to decide what you are trying to defend, A good education for the students in your district or a fair and equitable sports program. Minority Versus Majority. I DON'T mean racially. The kids in your or any sports program are the minority, the kids in the school who all have a right to a good education are the Majority.

 

Do the math. 50 to 100 kids on the football team versus 3500 total kids in the school. That's less than 2% of the student population. The extracurricular activities should prepare them for life in the real world. You must think that everything is FAIR in the real world.
