I think Murphy made up for a lot in the receiving game, Percy was more of a running back his junior year, Murphy made the huge catches down the stretch in the SEC title game, and National Title game. He was the deep ball threat that UF missed so much this season.

 

He was missed for sure, just not nearly as much as Harvin.

 

Murphy minus Harvin would have been a lot easier for teams to plan for and contain than the opposite. Also, with Harvin on the field, I think the Gators probably had some guys who could have made some plays on deep balls...maybe not as good, but good enough.

I don't know if UC will win, but if Kelly is clearly out of the running for the ND job within a week or two, meaning he can return his complete focus to the Bearcats, and get rid of a distraction for the whole team, then this game could be much more interesting than many are expecting.

They held the most prolific offense of all time to 14 points, I'd call that performing well against the top teams. They also beat #4 LSU by 32 points, and dismantled preseason #1, and at the the time #6 Georgia. They played pretty well all season other than the Mississippi game, they were pretty dominant all season.

His impact doesn't compare...Harvin was the guy who forced teams to game plan for, account for at all times, and they still couldn't contain him. So, not only did he get his, he opened the field up for Tebow and every other player on the field for Florida.

 

Had Harvin returned, they could have compensated for Murphy's production whether they replaced his talent or not.

 

Louis Murphy is a starting or close to it, WR in the NFL and is having a pretty good season. I don't know how much you watch the Gators, but losing him hurt just as bad as Harvin. They have no possession WR and no one to stretch the field, which is what Murphy did. He hurt them worse than Harvin, though that doesn't make sense. Harvin did some spectacular things at UF, but Murphy was the go to guy in passing situations.

 

Murphy also opened up the field for everyone else. He made defense play honest in the secondary. Who was going to replace Murphy? Not a WR that played this year for the Gators will have a very long NFL career IMO.

Which WRs were going to make up for it? Cooper is not a deep threat. The other WR have probably about 30 catches combined.

They lost a game and didn't dominate the two best teams they played. If we are talking about the history of college football, they don't deserve to be in the discussion for best team of all-time. JMO. Many would agree though.

You're right. That doesn't make sense. Because its not true. I'm not going to argue any further, but anyone who watched Florida last year, or has watched Harvin and Murphy in the NFL should know which guy has a bigger impact on games with both his big play ability and his ability to force teams to scheme and account for him.

But Murphy has been a surprise this year for the Raiders. He's made a couple game winning catches and (considering his qb's) has had a productive season. As for the debate at hand, they have both been missed but it's really hard to compare just about anyone with Percy Harvin (the clear-cut rookie of the year).

I agree, Steve Addazio coached at Indiana, Syracuse, and Notre Dame before he came to UF. He's never coached in a spread system, but he was hired to be the offensive coordinator at Florida. I know it was a matter of time before Mullen left for a head coaching gig, but I hope that maybe UF can hire a different guy that is more familiar with the spread. UNLV just fired Mike Sanford, one of Urban's old offensive coaches from when he was at Utah. Maybe they should bring him on.
