His impact doesn't compare...Harvin was the guy who forced teams to game plan for, account for at all times, and they still couldn't contain him. So, not only did he get his, he opened the field up for Tebow and every other player on the field for Florida.

Had Harvin returned, they could have compensated for Murphy's production whether they replaced his talent or not.

Agree see how Harvin is playing at Minnesota. Murphy playing well for Oakland but Harvin was the man other teams feared when playing Gators last year.

If UC had their D from last year going against this Florida team I would take UC and the spread.

I stopped reading after that line. Not even close. Harvin did EVERYTHING for that team.

You're right. That doesn't make sense. Because its not true. I'm not going to argue any further, but anyone who watched Florida last year, or has watched Harvin and Murphy in the NFL should know which guy has a bigger impact on games with both his big play ability and his ability to force teams to scheme and account for him.

You guys are missing the beauty of Urban's offense. You have to have a vertical threat, which Percy in all his greatness was not. Percy made his living on shallow route concepts and running the ball. Murphy was the guy that stretched the field. He got the go routes, the post, deep outs, etc. That kept teams honest.

Look at Bama this weekend, they knew that they didn't have to defend the pass. They stacked the box and forced Tebow to beat them with his arm. You couldn't do that with Murphy in the game.

Harvin is twice the player, but Murphy was just as important and Meyer would tell you that. You have to have a legit deep threat to run that offense, no matter who you have running the ball.

As for the stats, importance to a team cannot always be measured by individual production. Riley Cooper also benefitted this year from being only one of two options to pass the ball to. Last season that Gators used Cooper, Hernandez, Harvin, Murphy mainly, and also used Thompson and Moore more than they did this season.

You know what....forget it. Changing a teams strategy completely obviously has nothing to do with helping a team. Percy is someone you had to game plan for no doubt, but Louis Murphy made those Gators nearly unstoppable. You cannot guard every where on the field, and Murphy's deep threat made that happen. :isurrender:

I'm not arguing that Percy isn't the better player.

Do you at least retract your statement that the Gators miss Murphy more than they do Harvin?

Someone please go watch the UF-UT game and you'll see what I'm talking about. Instead of having to use both safeties in pass coverage, one safety was walked up to step up into the vacated hole when flow went away. It's why UT slowed down UF IMO, more than most did this season. Bama had a similar gameplan, but you do alot of different things out of the 3-4 than you would the 4-3. So those holes that Demps, Rainey, and even Harvin had last season were not as big this season.

No read what I said above. Murphy changes the strategy that teams used against UF completely.

Harvin is a game changer, Murphy was a game plan changer for teams playing the Gators IMO. I don't know, a little bit of film work would show it.:idunno:

Florida's entire offense is built around a guy like Percy Harvin. What did Murphy average... three touches per game? With all do respect, this is one of the worst arguments I've ever seen.

If you ask me, Murphy benefited more from the threat of Percy, than the other way around.

Percy was going to be a player no matter where he went.

Urban's offense isn't really built around that. He didn't have it at BG or Utah, so that's a poor argument.

Urban's offense is built on reading the box, and calling plays accordingly. They want to outnumber the amount of defenders in the box and run the ball. A guy like Murphy outside gives them a better chance of having favorable numbers to run against because teams have to respect the pass. If you don't believe me, I'm sure with a little research you could find Urban talking about his offense and what makes it work. I'm not going to argue this anymore, I've pretty much read everything about Meyer and his offense since he was at Utah and what I've said is basically what Urban has said all along. So unless you are saying that a 2-time national champion (Meyer) knows nothing about football, then this argument is over.

Also, the number of touches do not reflect a players worth IMO. It's how they effect the players around them. Maybe it did not help Percy individually, but as a whole it made the offense work alot better. Comparing Percy and Murphy as players is laughable I agree, but their importance was probably equal for the Gators last season IMO.

Any team preparing against Tebow would stop the run and make him have to throw it over the top to beat you. Who in the heck prepared for Florida and said, "Oh we better stop that Murphy guy first because he's killing everyone" ?

If I were you I would try to get out of this argument quickly also

It's not that they had to stop Murphy but they had to respect them.

Often times this season a safety (think Berry in the UT game) was resonsible for coming up in run support, usually going against flow. In going against flow, it allowed for a player to be there for all of the misdirection, which usually leads you to Tebow. Having that extra player there allows you to contain both sides of the ball, so when the players make their reads someone is there to make a play.

With a deep threat outside (Murphy), that man is going to be farther off the LOS, and many times in deep pass coverage or at least respecting the pass. That takes a man away from the LOS and box, and allows UF to run their full offense running-wise. It's a pick your poison type of thing: Defend the run and we throw over you, defend the pass and we run all over you. This season that wasn't there. They tried to use Cooper, but he's obviously more of a #3 WR than a true #1 outside guy.

Harvin wasn't going to be the main guy outside because he was so good in the run game.

Now if I have went over your head, please let me know and I'll try to slow down for you.:idunno:

 Yes you did. You mean a Safety defends the pass and the run? Who knew?

Cooper is such a bad #1 compared to Murphy that he put up better numbers than him

Had to lighten the mood a bit .

Cooper is no where near the #1 as Murphy. Many of his passes came on quick hitches stuff like that. He caught a few deep ones, but he does not really stretch the field. He also benefitted from being one of Tebow's only targets with Thompson and Moore being hurt for most of the season. Better numbers is not better overall production for the team. Like I said, the defense UF faced this season where not set up the same way as the season before. Football is so much more than what you see at first glance or catch in the box score as we all know.
