Just a short introduction of myself. I am a first time member but a long time viewer of the Camels Basketball team. My screenname is (true) which means I am going to bring to you all true opinions and not blow any smoke. The second part (shepherd) means that I will guard and protect the Camels and hopefully make them a better team in the longrun or at least maybe for just one game.

I am going to come into this season with an open mind and try to be as true in my opinions as I can be. I have seen Coach Code for three years now and every year is a rough one. Like I said I will give him another shot this year to coach basketball. At the first game I do have to give him some credit. He tried at the cost of looking desperate, everything in his power to keep time on the clock while Jolly was out with bleeding fingers. I can see why he would want to do this with (Jolly) 25 points in the game and missing about 4 minutes of total time, this will let any team back in the game. All we can do is hope Code can grasp the fundamentals of basketball this year.

 

Who is this Jolly player???

 

Brady Jolly is nothing greater than the "sultan of shot, the colossus of clout, the colossus of clout, the great Jollino" (sandlot, too much??) Anyway, he is what the Camels need to win some games this year. Not saying that the rest of the team aren't a help but you all saw the first game and listened to the crowd shouting "get it to Brady". He will obviously have his off days as everyone does so the team needs to step up and get something going behind him.

 

If I were the Coach:

 

I like to call this part "If I were the Coach" because I can criticize and give my opinions on what the Camels might try doing next time.

--How about having Jordan or anybody for that matter penetrate to the basket. We haven't seen this in the Code era. Lets have someone penetrate and dish it out for a wide open three or, here's an idea, take it to the house and you get an easy layup or a foul even. This is where I would start since we really have no height advantages for the most part and dont have the best talent this year. You have got to make plays happen and create opportunities.

Shepherd - Welcome to the site. I, like you, follow Camel basketball very closely.

 

I know that Coach Code has every intention to open things up this year. The problem is that can be difficult playing against a team going zone 75% of the time. I am very confident that the coaching staff learned a lot in the first game. They will make adjustments and you will see many changes over the next few games.

 

As for Brady Jolly, he is showing why he is one of the best players in the 10th. The rest of the team will learn, develop and win some games. I can assure you.

1.True Opininon, Opinions are how you feel not always the truth. 2.Do you play? 3.Do you have control over the CC basketball program? 4.Is he worth double the clout? 5.This is what all coaches should do listen to the crowd. Before Coach Code arrived at CC the program was in shambles and he has brought it back to a level of respectability. I am not bashing you because I feel that everyone has a right to express their thoughts but I pointed out some of these things because to me they didn't make a lot of sense.

To make it more understandable.

Not every fan base is going to be happy with their coach and I hear a lot of criticism toward Coach Code for his style of play. I am purely a NKY basketball fan and have allegiance to a couple of schools, not CC. However, I do root for the NKY schools in the 10th region and have friends who have kids that go to CC. I think the style that Coach Code brings to the program may not be the most exciting but he comes from a strong coaching family and seems to be trying some new things with the offense. I think the fans of CC should give him some time and see how things open up through December. JMO

To answer everyone of your numbers redcross:1. my opinions are my opinions only not fact, that is what this site is for; 2. I do not play, experienced; 3. Control over CC basketball is up for discussion; 4. Is Jolly worth double the clout? Watch Sandlot then get back to me. And your right he really isn't worth double, he's worth TRIPLE!!;5. Maybe he should try. Did you experience the Holmes game last year. Real good game. He made them hold the ball at mid court the whole time. That sound like a great game plan for high school kids.

 

And to Grych- I understand Code is newer and I am trying to give him a shot and like I said earlier I will continue to try again this year. We will see how he does as the season moves on.

I don't have a dog in the fight but I cannot for the life of me figure out why Campbell County isn't a better program. It's been 8 years since they have won their district and during that time period have only been runner up a couple of times. It just seems to me that a school of that size with the number of kids they have should be more competitive on a regular basis. I am not saying make it to state every year but to at least provide some competition in the district on a regular basis would be a reasonable expectation in my opinion.

Not to be critical of anyone, but, the largest school in northern Ky, Campbell Co. Football, first time head coach, basketball, first time head coach, baseball, first time head coach. I'm not being judgmental, or questioning anyone's ability to coach. Just wondering why a school the size of Campbell County does not draw any seasoned coach's of late. Just wondering

I also have wondered why CC hasn't been more successful over the past several years. I thought they had the team last year to make some noise in the 10th with Nerl, Albrecht & company, but it didn;t work out that way.

While I don't think that losing to Pendleton Co is the way any of the Campbell faithful envisioned starting off the season. Have to remember its a marathon and not a sprint. Only thing that matters is getting out of district and having an opportunity to advance in regional.

 

More importantly is going to be how they match up with Brossart and Scott. Beat those two in regular season and get that #1 seed in district and nobody will remember Pendleton Co game.

The decline with Campbell basketball seemed to have happened when they decided to let Coach Sullivan go. Many will disagree with this, but Coach Sullivan did something that had not been done for a very long time, A trip to RUPP. He had the feeder systems in place that kept everyone very interested in the program, he was also a very visible person a many youth games and spoke with the parents. I think that Brossart and NCC both will agree that he may have been too visible at some of the Catholic grade school games, but he DID GET RESULTS!!

 

Now for the first time in the years since Coach Sullivan has left you have a coach that wants to instill disclipline, hard work ethic and cares about his teams very much and things are just not good enough?? Scott Code is a very good coach that has a tremendous love for the game and his players and understands that the season is not a sprint. If the players continue to buy into his system, stop listening to what is being said around the dinner table, and the administration lets this man do his job the results with happen and all will be happy with the results. If my memory is correct this is the start of his 3rd season, so hopefully all of the hard work over the past couple years will start to show and the results will come, but lets give this guy some time!! This is a district that I would say has the best coaching talent in the 10th region. 2 Codes and 1 Carr = 1 tough district.

 

Mike Code and Coach Carr are proof that if you buy into a system results will happen and I can assure both of those coaches can attest to that.

 

Let Coach Code do his job, support him if a Camel fan and if the results do not happen then at the end of the season take a look back and see how all turned out. Because, I can assure that is what all good coaches do and if the season does not turn out as one of success, than that coach will be a much harder critic on himself than any "so called supporters would be". You at Campbell have a very good coach let him do what he is there to do and support him!!

I agree completely. Lets see how things are adjusted tonight. I will reserve my judgement until after the Brossart game next Friday.

There was nothing wrong with program when coach Reitz was there. If he would have been there last year CC could have punched the ticket to Rupp. But instead, we had to have a new coach? Why? CC fans should understand they don't own the 10th. But, should recognize when they have a good team and appreciate them.
