I really think that ND should take a look at Chris Petersen. He would do wonders at ND IMO.

I don't think it's over with Stoopy.

Didn't John Calipari say he was happy and staying at Memphis? We all know not to believe anything anyone says until a coach is announced.

Stoops is a smoke screen IMO. ND has a strong candidate IMO, and is trying to keep it under wraps.

Shortly after Charlie Weis was fired by Notre Dame, Bob Stoops took his name out of consideration for the Notre Dame job by announcing he will remain at Oklahoma.

 

This is important only in that it establishes a time line. More on that later.

Odd word to use, intend, when "will" would be so much more definitive, no?

That's the only (job) right now that I'm looking to do," said Stoops.

 

Do I really need to explain the importance of that little tidbit? Just in case "Right now" means that's what I'm thinking at the moment. Of course tomorrow or ten minutes from now if he were to change his mind, he could always say, "That was then, but things changed."

"I'm going to be at Oklahoma next year. I can't be in two places at once."

 

More definitive but certainly not a nail in the coffin.

 

Rumors surfaced on Saturday that Stoops would meet with Notre Dame officials on Sunday.

 

Hmmm, a meeting may or may not have taken place yesterday. Bob, care to comment on that?

 

But Monday afternoon Stoops would not confirm whether that meeting had taken place.

 

If he won't confirm, would he deny it?

 

"I will never confirm or deny whether I talk or don't talk to anybody.

That's a non-denial denial which means basically, yeah I talked to them. If he didn't and he wanted to end it right with his next sentence, he could have. But he didn't, did he.

 

I won't be interviewing for any jobs," he said.

"Won't" as in contraction for "will not" as in future tense. Of course since this statement was made today (after CW's firing) there would be no need to interview for "another job", if he had already interviewed for it on Sunday...which he didn't deny might have happened.

 

Now this does not mean he's definitely going to ND. What it likely means is that if his agent wants to work a deal with ND or wants to work OU for an extension, Bob has given them the wiggle room to do so.

The name that is picking up steam as well is Butch Davis. He would be a good hire as well.

The times changed about 10 - 15 - 20 years ago. The rest of the nation is just beginning to realize it.

Very good point! People love to say Notre Dame will never return to the elite level they use to be all the while Lou Holtz explained today on ESPN News why Notre Dame is easier to win at today than ever!

TD at Notre Dame, just might be that guy...his image really can't get hurt, as it seems it would be experimental.....he has the bloodlines, the discipline, and the morals to run such a program....question is, will the administration allow him to make the choices.
