Wisdom Teeth Out Today

Featured Replies

I am about to go get mine out in about an hour.

Any advice or experiences with it from anybody?

Pain meds. Unique choice considering the proximity to one of the few holidays of the year that celebrate with a major feast. Good Luck!

And FWIW, I find it's much better if you're the taker-outer, instead of the donor. LOL.

Don't worry at all. I worried a lot before I got mine out and it was all for nothing. Just take the pain killers when necessary. The pain never really got that bad for me at all. As a matter of fact, it was just uncomfortable more than anything. I didn't really feel all that much pain. They prescribed me percocets and I took them on schedule for the first day, and then after that I just took them when I started to feel like I needed one.

Also plan on relaxing on the couch for a day or two, maybe three. You won't really want to do a lot and you will want to eat soft foods for a while. I ate jello, mashed potatoes and ice cream. Make sure you keep the holes where your wisdom teeth were very clean. Do not let things get back in there and do not mess with the stiches. Listen to what they tell you about dry socket and do everything you can to avoid it.

It's not that bad. I had mine taken out this past summer and didn't even have to take any pain meds.

Worst experience of my life...:ohbrother: I was totally in another world and felt like I was floating and could see everything that went on, really odd experience for me...The aftercare was easy, just DON'T SUCK and KEEP THE HOLES CLEAN to avoid dry socket! Took one pain pill and never needed another!

Are you having them Cut or Pulled?

You'll be fine!:thumb:

Awful! Hope it goes ok for you.

Ditto. Horrible experience for me, hope yours goes well for you.

Can't believe you all had bad experiences. Mine wasn't bad at all. I guess that might be because I was suffering so much from pain before...

No problems at all for me. Had them out at age 17. Some pain the first night, then none worth mentioning after that; didn't need so much as an aspirin. Mom was upset with me because I went swimming at the public pool the next day.

Had mine taken out when I was 21 or 22. The first day was a bummer. All four of mine were pretty badly impacted and had to be cut out, but after the first day, as long as you follow directions and don't suck on anything, clean the sockets religiously, etc, it was pretty darn easy. Pain ended pretty quickly.

Also, I think you'll find out that as great as an all-Jello & pudding diet may sound, that gets really old really quickly.

There's always room for Jello.

Chlorine kills everything anyway.

Yeah, there's always room, but after nothing-but for a day or so, I remember distinctly wanting nothing even remotely close to Jello. I would have given my right arm for something with a little bit of crunch to it.

As I recall, that was my argument at the time. I think my parents were of the opinion that baby urine and feces were more powerful than chlorine.

Too bad there's not a lot of crunch in adult beverages.
