Golden Tate has the second strongest set of hands-other than Michael Crabtree-that I've seen this decade. He goes over the middle and makes some of the best catches you will see. Floyd is one of the best vertical threats in the country, I know you said you've watched a lot of Notre Dame games, but have you really watched them?

 

And there are several great players that play on bad teams, I don't see your argument there.

 

My point is a passing game (alone) doesn't win a championship. Never has, never will.

 

Strong hands by one WR doesn't win a NC. Notre Dame is a mediocre program right now, they have been for the better part of the last two decades, hence the 1 bowl win since who knows when. Never said there wasn't bad teams with great players either.

You just made my point for me. Those two guys (and J. Clausen) are very talented. But the Irish have failed to produce in other key areas (running game/defense) despite top 10 recruiting classes and going out and hiring one of the hottest defensive coordinators in the business two years ago. NOTHING is going to make them a title contender next year, the main reason is that there not gonna win at USC and I think Tate and Clausen are gone anyway. I'm :deadhorse: here. The thread is about who is going to win the NC next year, and in my opinion they don't deserve to be in the conversation.

 

IMO, USC or Alabama will be preseason number one next year and those two will probably meet in the NC.

As far as a good running game goes, there are some very talented backs in South Bend. Charlie doesn't use it properly IMO. He comes out on the first drive of every game and pounds the ball and throws screens and slants. Then when ND needs it in the 4th he lets Clausen and co. play and they score half their points in the 4th.

I know it is a different situation and ND probably does not have enough to win a title, but there is a reason Matt Doherty was fired and Roy Williams wins a title with his cast of players at UNC.

With that cast and a good coach they'd have a decent shot at making a run. The talent is there. Many wil call BK or whoever a miracle worker, but ND has talent. Maybe not as much as USC or UF, but pretty good talent.

Dez is the one guy I would take, and I don't know that I'd take him over Tate. I know he is a much better prospect, I just think that Tate potentially could give you more in the college game. I think Tate would be nasty in a spread offense.

How about Arkansas as a dark horse? The only lose 4 starters. IF Mallett and DJ Williams come back, they should be as good as anyone in the SEC, save maybe Bama. They have been playing much better, Petrino is a heck of a coach, and that offense should be pretty nasty. I don't think they can win it, but I think they could maybe make a run at it.

 

Mallett has been kind of overlooked this season. He is in his first FULL season as a starter and has put up these numbers: 193/328, 3195 yards, 28 TD, 6 INT.

That is him, 6'7" 235, his doctors believe he will get to at least 6'8" in college. Has a 36 inch vertical as well. I heard when he met Terrelle and they stood side by side Terrelle said he was huge and felt small standing next to him.

IMO, Texas will be too inexperienced at the QB spot though they will have talent at the position. OU should be much better, but we'll see what happens with the Bob Stoops stuff and they are going to have to get much, much better on the offensive line. Texas Tech just always seems to be a pretender, even the 2008 team which was probably Leach's best was exposed by OU and Ole Miss. JMO.

He does already have a nice feel for getting the ball to Posey, IMO. And if he can't hit a 6'8" WR, Pryor probably needs to make a position change. He's never going to be Peyton Manning, but he has become more and more of an effective player at QB for OSU.

They have as much offensive talent as anyone, IMO. The Pro-style offense they run is not going to put up video-game numbers, IMO. The defensive talent probably isn't that bad either, it just seems very badly coached. Meyer, Kelly, etc. win a minimum of 10 games with the Irish team of this year IMO.
