As far as Tate and Floyd, they are two of the better wide receivers in the NCAA. Both will be playing on Sundays. That being said, Notre Dame has no business being in this conversation. What is going to change from this year to next year that would make them a title contender? They couldn't even beat Michigan, Navy, or UConn. Besides while I believe that Dayne Christ will be a great NCAA QB one day, it is very likely that Jimmy Clausen will not return, especially if Weis does not and there will be a dropoff at the QB position as well as the OL as 4 starters will not be back.

 

There is a saying that defense wins championships, so if that is true were would that leave Notre Dame, because the even if Clausen and Tate return and the offense puts up 30+ points a game, they are not going to stop anyone from scoring. In addition I believe that being able to control the clock goes a long way to producing wins. Weis has never had much of a running game, I don't really look for that to change over the summer either.

 

I'm as big of an Irish fan as anybody, but lets face the truth, Notre Dame was ranked this year preseason because of who they are, not because they deserved it. I have believed that Weis had things going in the right direction but this was the year to show improvement. The team has not improved and I firmly believe that it is time for Weis to go. However, I would only let him go if they are able to secure a coach on their short list. Better to make a one year mistake (by keeping Weis) than to make another 5 year mistake by hiring someone who is far down on the wishlist.

I go to a few home games each year. I would love to make that one. Miami will be a real threat. Jacory and Terrelle are really good friends. It will be a dandy.

I've watched all of their games. They are good players, sorry I called them decent. But they aren't great players, if they were they wouldn't be 6-5 with back-to-back losses to Navy and Uconn.

 

I'd say at least two of those guys go pro anyway. If you think they are close to being a NC contender then you obviously haven't watched them.

 

Golden Tate has the second strongest set of hands-other than Michael Crabtree-that I've seen this decade. He goes over the middle and makes some of the best catches you will see. Floyd is one of the best vertical threats in the country, I know you said you've watched a lot of Notre Dame games, but have you really watched them?

 

And there are several great players that play on bad teams, I don't see your argument there.

I think Miami will run through the season next year, we may see several beatdowns from the Canes. Mark Whipple is doing a great job this season, and Harris will only get better in that system.

 

But I do agree that whoever wins the Miami/Ohio State game probably has the inside track to the MNC.

I hope you're right. I would love for the Canes to win that one, and go on to the MNC. After the last few years I've just felt like it would never happen again. They should have plenty of talent to work with. Injuries will be another big thing for them. They are playing without, IMO, their 3 best defensive players. Ojomo has been out all year, Forston has been out most of the year and is getting a redshirt, and Spence has been injured off and on throughout the year missing the last few games. Add to that the other injuries that have added up like the 3 main players that rotate at the Safety positions and IMO their 2nd most talented LB in Jordan Futch who has been out for weeks with an ACL, and I'm tickled to be at this point with only 3 losses. If they are lucky enough to get to the MNC, I can't imagine the party I would throw during that game. We'll see though, nothing would surprise me. Plus, they will be one Jacory Harris injury away from playing in the Meinike Car Care Bowl or some other garbage bowl as well.

 

I can't imagine that if OSU gets by that game that another team will beat them in the regular season. Much of the Big 10 should be in transition, and unbiasedly I think that I can say that no team they will play in conference will bring anywhere near the athleticism that Miami will bring. I loathe the Buckeyes, but they have a great program. People have been on to Tressell about bringing in speed, and he has done it. OSU should be loaded next season.

I think he was saying that IF Clausen and Co. come back they would have a shot. Now some of them realisitically are probably gone, but you never know.

 

If they kept all those weapons on offense a guy like Brian Kelly or Gary Patterson is going to fix that defense. It may not be great in year one, but it will be adequate. Those guys require defense. If they lucked into Meyer coming, defense wouldn't be a big problem. It's one of his 4 demands for his programs. IMO, defense is about coaching and want to. ND has some talent over there it's just not being used properly.

 

IMO, Clausen, Tate, Floyd, Allen, Floyd, are good enough on offense to carry a good defense. It doesn't have to be great. IMO, they will probably get a spread guy, meaning that 30 points isn't going to be their average in that scenario. JMO.

Deal man. I'd say whoevers team loses buys, but I've learned not to trust my Canes. I can remember being in HS in 2002 and losing all kinds of money on the Miami-OSU MNC game. I'm petty though in a way, I paid every single person their money in Penny's that I cashed in at the bank :lol:. I don't even want to mention how much money I lost, or how many people I bet.

As I've stated before I'm not real big on Carter (JMO though), but I really like Posey's game. We were talking about how good he is the other day. I also really like James Louis' game, if that's the kid I'm thinking of from S. FLA?

Look, I know Tate and Floyd are good, but they can't play defense too. Despite Tate in the wildcat, which he has picked up some good yards, they can be in the back field either. And they can't develop the others players around them to get better.

 

What else do you want them to do? Both had 100 yards against the two teams you mention.

 

And I have watched them this year, I have been to 5 games. Every game they have played in outside of their two blowout wins was within 7 points. It wasn't the guys on offense that lost those games either. I mean I few things go differently they could be at 1 or 2 losses. So IMO NO they are not far from being a championship team.

 

 

You just made my point for me. Those two guys (and J. Clausen) are very talented. But the Irish have failed to produce in other key areas (running game/defense) despite top 10 recruiting classes and going out and hiring one of the hottest defensive coordinators in the business two years ago. NOTHING is going to make them a title contender next year, the main reason is that there not gonna win at USC and I think Tate and Clausen are gone anyway. I'm :deadhorse: here. The thread is about who is going to win the NC next year, and in my opinion they don't deserve to be in the conversation.

 

IMO, USC or Alabama will be preseason number one next year and those two will probably meet in the NC.
