Notre Dame Blocks Flight Tracker

I hate Florida and ND, but if it were me I think I would stay. Why leave what you have built at Florida? Maybe he wants the challenge, but I think continued domination of the SEC would be just as tough, especially with life after Tebow coming up. As a UK fan, I'd love to see him go. Personally, I think he's crazy if Florida can get close to the money and he leaves.

He has the ties to Notre Dame though, he loves Lou Holtz and Notre Dame. He's a mid-west guy, I can see the appeal for him. I wish he wouldn't leave, but if this is the deal, I would call him crazy to turn it down.

Maybe because he sees that the love for him will not last forever if he stays too long. Look at Bowden now and Paterno a few years ago. I saw some UF fans saying they couldn't wait until Tebow graduated, so imagine what could happen if they go 4 or 5 years without a serious title contending season. There's already grumblings about Miles at LSU and he won a title a few seasons ago.

I wouldn't leave either, but I can see the reasons he could choose to do so.

Don't you think the ND fans are more critical than UF?

The upside is if you win there, they will love you forever, I get what you are saying. You also have to live in South Bend as opposed to Florida

^^ I don't see how anyone could pick South Bend over sunny Florida either, but you never know.

I actually would. I prefer cold to hot.

Maybe Meyer does as well?

Urban Meyer is a lot better of a coach than Bob Stoops and Brian Kelly. He's one of the two or three best coaches since Bear Bryant and the best coach of the last 20 years, if I were Florida, I'd throw every bit of money I could muster to keep him.

The best coach over the last 20 years is a little much. One of the best yes. Tom Osborne was one heck of a coach and he was still coaching 20 years ago.

I would not be surprised either way (stay or go). It would be interesting to see him at ND. Overall I think Feb or so is going to be interesting. I do not think he will take a job (announce it) some where else until after the bowl game.

Really? I don't think it is. Two titles and he has only been a head coach for 9 years, he's won at every single school he's been at.

Not even Osbourne can say that he had two titles in his first 8 years though. Also the game has changed alot and there are alot more teams that are high quality than even 10 years ago. Meyer is coaching in a day where teams throw more often, faster athletes, fewer scholarships, the offenses and defense are way more complex as well. I dont think we can say definitely who is the better coach, but I think Meyer has a great case that stands up to just about anyones resume and on his current pace I'm not sure that he won't be compared to Bear or Rockne.

I can't stand the Gators, (or Meyer while he's their coach) but I'll take him over anyone since Bear Bryant, with Osbourne being a close 2nd.

Remember the system for selecting the national champion was different for much of Osborne's career. The BCS system came in place around 93. From 94-97 he won 3 national titles. If he had coached his entire career under the current setup his numbers would be different. Osborne was ahead of his time offensively in ways many do not realize.

Meyer is a good coach no question. One of the best coaches in recent history and when it is said one of the best to maybe coach. Saying he is the best coach in the past 20 years is a little much. It also depends on your POV on that statement. Does that mean someone you coached during the past 20 years taking into account their entire career or just the portion of their coaching career that takes place over the past 20 years.

Great points and I agree :thumb:. Meyer's resume cannot compare to some of the all-time greats, but this is just a small sample size. He's not even a decade in and has accomplished more than most coaches dream about. I'm a little young to remember most of Osbourne's career, so I'll say that during the time I've been able to watch I can't think of anyone who I'd compare with Meyer. It's just my opinion, but I think that even Saban and Carroll aren't on Meyer's level. It is an individual opinion though obviously.

Saban messed up by going to the NFL. Since he left it opened the door for Meyer to get a good foot hole in the SEC. Saban doesn't leave LSU and he gets another title. Carroll I have no clue why he is slipping. Meyer's career is going to be fun to watch.

I agree on Saban. I'd take him over Carroll, but that's JMO. I think that Carroll is so non-chalant that it kind of hurts them once or twice a year, but that's probably just me. Any of the three are excellent coaches and I'm sure any team in the country would take them.

Does much of Notre Dame's winning problems correlate with the tough student admission standards they began back in the mid '90's? IMO it will not matter how much money they throw at Meyer, until they ease up a little in that area they will still have a hard time recruiting the number of top players they will need to be a title contender.

I don't think this keeps them from being competitive. If you go Rivals ratings with the exception of the DL they have mostly 4 star guys all over the field. Something is wrong, but at least according to rivals ratings they have as good or better athletes than anyone on their schedule with the exception of USC.
