There is no fallacy in the thread title. Would it have been sufficient for you that in an article on the Democrats appealing on moral grounds for them to have talked about what the GOP is doing?

 

The easy point to your point that I am not seeing is that Democrats continue to tell GOP to quit using their faith to guide decisions. We have seen it in thread after thread on here that people tell me that my faith shouldn't drive my political votes. So, I don't believe it is surprising to anyone that the GOP is using faiths to make their point.

 

What is surprising is that the Democrats are now appealing to people's faiths on issues that are important to them.

 

Think they will appeal to voters to continue to make abortion legal based on moral grounds?

I just find it ironic that two pages are spent on bashing one side for faith appeal when it is obvious that both sides are engaged to the eyeballs. :walk:

The clothes closet at my church, you don't have to be a member of attend our church to get free clothes from it. You have to have a need and come and visit it.

 

Still though you shouldn't have to get aid at a church IMO. It should be available, but it cannot be the only means IMO.

Thanks for taking time to post these. Are you saying that these links state that the percentage is of government spending on welfare is around 2%? They seemed to say to me, that the percentage assigned was a percentage of GDP, not of government spending. But I could be wrong. I was never very good with charts and graphs.

I don't know about others, but I haven't claimed (nor has LBBC) that a church is the only place to get assistance, or that government shouldn't be an option. Church/synagogue/mosque/salvation army or whatever should be the first option if the individual cannot help themselves, or receive help from family. And if the church/synagogue/mosque/salvation army/etc doesn't meet all needs, that's when the government comes in as an option. But government should be the last avenue to be pursued.

Don't mistake my position. Both play the game to the same ends.

 

And we have had numerous thread after thread on here bashing the Republicans about using religion to some political end.

 

Some feel and have expressed their opinion that the Republicans don't want to see abortion illegal because they lose that political clout with those voters.

 

In all of the bashing of Republicans and religion on here, I don't remember you getting in a tizzy, quickly defending them that the Democrats do it too?

With an assumption of hard times this winter on the cold nights, today, my church has started the process to open our church up to any that would need to spend the night there.

 

It was presented to me that our county does not have a shelter for these means and I quickly called my minister. We talked for 10-15 minutes working through some things and he is going to present it to the elders.

 

If they approve it and we see no reason they do not, when the emergency personnel in our county call for help on those cold nights, anyone with the means to heat their homes can take up shelter in our church.

I would say family should be the first. Church the second. Community third. Government last.

 

I think we have become a society of Government first because we see that as free money that is not really costing anyone we know to pay for it. Some will say, "they can just print more of it."
