This is a good win for Raceland. Even with all the talk about Barr, I think Tyler Farley deserved the MVP award. He's a very good passer and once again did a great job tonight. He spread the ball around to a few different receivers. I don't know what to say about Russell's secondary. Raceland spread them out all night long and Russell just clearly doesn't have the playmakers to match up with Raceland. I was fooled into thinking the Russell pass defense was good because they faced running teams for most of the year. Credit also should go to the Raceland line, who gave Farley time to throw for 330 yards. He got sacked once or twice, but that's to be expected when you throw it pretty much every play.

 

Raceland found the key to stopping Russell's offense. They bottled up Travis Jones. I think a good defensive gameplan and proper execution by the players beats Russell more often than not when the other team has equal talent. It's obvious that Raceland has equal talent and probably even better. Raceland also has an excellent coaching staff. If it's not working, Russell will run it again and again and again. If it's still not working, then they will continue to run it again and again and again. I stood in the end zone with some former Russell players and they were calling Russell's plays before they ran them with a pretty high percentage of success. I would imagine if they couls do this, former Russell player and Raceland coach T.J. Maynard had a pretty good idea how to coach up his defense. I think Russell's offensive philosophy requires bigger, stronger, and faster players when you are matched up against a good team and Raceland is a good team. Don't get me wrong. The Russell players tried, but Raceland just has bigger and stronger players who also knew where to be. They stuffed the run and that's all Russell had in the bag of tricks.

 

Raceland's program is coming along well with the dedication off the field in the weight room in the offseason. It is starting to serve as a good benchmark as to what direction the Russell program is headed in because this year's Raceland team is probably 3 or 4 TD's worse than last year's Raceland team and they beat Russell by more. Future Russell football players have some real soul searching to do if they are going to keep up. There are a lot of programs in our area on the rise and it's not going to be easy to maintain the tradition they have built without some serious improvements. Good luck to Raceland in the playoffs. I hope someone pulls the upset of the century and knocks LCA off in the 1st or 2nd round for you guys. :-)

I just got off the phone with a good friend and very knowledgeable football man and he said Raceland just out muscled Russell and played well diciplined, hard hitting football. Also, I was told this was the J. Barr that we have been waiting on all season, the kid has had one tough year being injured in pre season and working hard to get back. Who knows what our record could have been with him healthy all season. I feel that Raceland certainly would have won the Fleming and GCHS games but that is in the "if a frog had wings" territory :lol:. We have him healthy now when it counts and thst is what matters.

Jeremy Barr took over this game! This is the best game Raceland has played all season. If we played like that all season we sure wouldn't be sitting at 6-4 thats for sure.

Jeremy Barr is a beast. He was all over the field tonight on both sides of the ball. Wish he had been healthy all year!

 

Raceland played a really complete game tonight. They squib kicked all night (kicked it deep once...learned from their mistake), their defense out muscled Russell's o-line, their receivers got open, they had the right plays called at the right time and they converted 3rd downs when they needed to convert 3rd downs. Hats off to the coaching staff at Raceland- they had the winning game plan. You can tell TJ Maynard WANTS this game every season. He is intense every game, but he turns it up a notch for LCA and Russell. lol!

 

Raceland's orange crush D was in full on attack mode. Farley was making good throws. It was just one of those games where everything comes together. The one nitpick I had was Farley has got to learn to throw the ball away. He took a couple of sacks he didn't have to take, but he made-up for it in the long run. Might not get that chance against an LCA.

 

Great win for the Rams. It's a shame the threat of weather kept so many away. Russell fans can't complain about room...there were still seats on their side of the field! There was room on Raceland's side as well. For those of us who were willing to go we got a great game.

CONGRATULATIONS RAMS

A great job goes to- The defense. What a display of determination. From the defense interior line to the linebackers to the corners and safety. You did a great job. Jones is such a hard nose runner. And you did a magnificent job of keeping him under control. A lot of times it looked like Jones was going to break away. But you held on to a leg or a jersey till help came. All of you came out hitting and never gave up.

A great job goes out to the offense as well. This IMO is the best you have looked coming out after half time all year. Your execution was really good the second half. The line did a great job of protecting the QB. And it looked like all of the receivers did a great job of running the routes. The backs started hitting the holes the second half. And that really helped.

And a shout out goes to the Coaching staff. All of you did a great job of preparing this team for a tough battle. The defense scheme was awesome. The offense scheme was a very good one also. I love those post routes...A great job of spreading the ball over the field.

BUT --------- We won't talk about special teams on a special night.

No names mentioned because after I thought about it for awhile. I came to the conclusion that although alot of players stood out tonight. Alot of players that did equally as well never get mentioned. So no names.

This was a total team effort. It had to be or we wouldn't have won the game.

Thank you JD. :thumb: Raceland finally came together tonight. Whatever "it" is :confused:, this team has been mising "it" all season ..

Tonight they played with the swagger of past teams. I believe that they now just my have found the "it" factor and beat an arch rival and #7 ranked 3A team in the state.

Everyone did great in this game. But I wanna give some credit to some of the guys who dont get it to often. And that goes to the "big hogs" upfront. They played with great discipline tonight. They didn't bite the fake handoffs and stayed at home on those dangerous counter plays. There were a few times where I didn't even know which player had the ball. But the dline sure did. Not only was this the best game for the players. But for the coaches as well:thumb: These coaches really put the boys in the position to win the game tonight! Another big thing was ZERO turnovers for Raceland and minimal penalties as well! Disciplined, Hardhitting, determined football was played tonight and it showed.

Also a big congratulations goes out to Jones from Russell for bieng tonights Devil MVP. He had some very impressive runs. There were times when I started clapping because I thought we got him the backfield only to be quickly stopped by him running 10 yards downfield. Russells QB played pretty well too!
