I don't know if you were there 2 years ago but there was literally nowhere to sit. People where packed in like sardines. By 6:45 the stadium was literally packed with people. The visitors side was overflowing and people were parking at our church on Caroline Road and getting shuttled down to the stadium. My in-laws live on Brown St and I always park at their house. 2 years ago there were cars all the way down to the park.

I agree. There was a good crowd, but it was not what I expected. Raceland had a large crowd, still not what I expected, but good. I really thought Russell would have a bigger crowd, no where near the last two years. I also expected more people from surrounding schools, this game normally draws more people from the area schools.

 

All in all, a good crowd, and great atmosphere. I would had loved to see more people, but still a great night of high school football.

The honorary captains last night were Jerry Flocker, Karen McBrayer and Donny Rowe. This was special for Flocker as his son Jacob is a senior and last night was senior night. Donny did not wear his famous #3 and instead chose to honor another '79 graduate, #44 Larry Anderson, who is no longer with us.

 

It's a great day to be a RAM!

Finally! We saw a consistent offensive attack that had options and offensive line play that helped give Tyler time to throw. Also, great advice came from an intelligent former play caller at halftime........you know who you are.:thumb: You will be a GREAT football coach in a few years. Hopefully here at Raceland.

 

How bought that defensive line play last night? I agree with an earlier post, Cody Grant has his best game of the year last night.

 

I am very proud of how the entire team played with the exception of some less than stellar special teams plays. Maybe little cuz (Nathan Taylor) had something to do with that. Russell would have had an awesome back if he'd played all through high school!

I'm here, it takes a little while for me to get home after games.

 

Both teams came to play, after the first half it looked as who ever had the ball last would win, but Raceland came out and took control in the secon half. Great adjustments by the coaching staff at the half.

 

Russell looked good in the first half and seemed to find some stuff that worked, but seldom went back to those plays. Still a great game by Russell and I wish them luck in the playoffs.

 

I know we had some players that stepped up big, but I have to say the Oline and Dline deserve a lot of credit, they played inspired and controlled the center of the field. Rodney Salyers had many pancakes, including two on the same player on the same play, great effort Rodney. Cody Grant had his best game of the season, he controlled the line. Great effort by the line.

 

Farley passed better then he had all season, stepped into his throws more and delivered the heat. Jeremy Barr played a great game, great effort on his part, stepped up big on offense and defense.

 

Johnny Shearer three catches for over one hundred yards and two TD's, great senior night for Johnny.

 

Just an all around great team effort for Raceland, I hope it carries over to the playoffs.

 

While I was setting in the stands last night I was wishing we would go to the hurry up offense. Russell seemed to be slow getting lined up on defense at times. Don't know if they were tired or confused with the RAM style offense. But man what a great game to play right before the playoffs. And get that X-QB on the payroll ASAP.

I occasionally thought the same thing, Russell was on their heels, hit the hurry up button. But, I can't second guess the coaches, they did a great job with play calling and recognizing the mismatch on Barr.

 

As for Coach Boyles, and he was highly motivated. He did a great job.

Rams find stride in ‘team effort’

RACELAND — Raceland finally retrieved its mojo Friday night.

 

At least that’s what Rams’ senior Jeremy Barr called it.

 

“We were all feeling good out there,” Barr said. “Our whole offense clicked. We had to do it in a game like this. Now we have good confidence and some mojo going into the playoffs.”

 

Raceland (6-4) turned in an all-around effort to beat Russell, 27-15, at Rams Stadium in the third annual Rail Cities Bowl, closing out both teams’ regular seasons.

Ill tell you what play I wanted to see. Was the trick play where Farley would've walked toward the sideline with hands up looking for a play. Then a direct snap to the halfback! Everytime Farley walked that way to get a play the Russeel defense stood straight up and started walking around or looking toward their sideline.

As for Coach Boyles, and he was highly motivated. He did a great job.

 

Mr. Boyles would be a great addition should he or Raceland choose that route, imo one of the most "football smart" QB's at Raceland in a very long, long time. am glad he was there and as all Raceland alums he will always be welcome at Raceland.
