Andy Katz amazed by UK Big Blue Madness

Could have easily been the difference in our views.:thumb:

But the scrimmage was still horrible.

Except I did enjoy Harrelson bombing all the 3's from the stalls of Rupp Arena.:D

If they televised my team's first practice of the season I don't think it would be very entertaining either! BBM gets a lot of hype, but you just have to remember what it is. It about the intro's and the hype.

Too much women's basketball, too much cheerleaders, too much dance team. I realize they are all important parts of the UK athletic program, but people come to Midnight Madness to watch the men's team. UK puts on a good show, but their relentless attempts to push things that 95% of the audience doesn't care about makes it too long and it begins to lose it's luster.

My mom told me that Kyle Macy was one of the commentators. That would suck the life out of anything.

Meh.. I was there, and I'm glad I was, but it wasn't terribly exciting IMO.

The intros were great, except from my view (upper level, 15 rows up, behind the normal UK bench) I could only watch on the screens. The players were blocked by the big screen behind the stage.

Cal's speech was good, but long. I take that it was more a speach to the recruits than the fans, and I'm fine with that.

There was a really long gap between the cheerleaders and the women's team. I'm not sure what was going on there.

The women's scrimage was fine, the men's warmups were the best part, and the scrimmage was OK. I really do wish they had made at least SOME effore to play D though.

I'm sure that all sounds really negative, but I did have a good time. I'm more excited for the Blue/White game though.

Midnight Madness or Big Blue Madness as it's called now lost it's luster when Barnhart arrived on the scene if you want "pure" basketball. I remember going to these events in the late 80's and it was mens basketball and they played real basketball not this joke stuff we saw Friday night. The current pace we are on with Mitch he will be introducing the Rupp Arena custodians to the crowd by 2013!

From my seat (except for the intro):

It was good, but not all that great. Seeing the new players was fun.

BBM is all lights and show. I'd rather attend the Blue-White game. The scrimmage is always much better, and that's what everyone is interested in anyway.

When is this?

When is this?

The 28th.
