Did Farley sustain a hand injury or did I dream that? If he did, what is his status. I apologize for being out of the loop, been in the deer woods the last few days.

 

He was taken for X-rays on his hand in the 2nd half of the LCA game. It is my understanding that it was not broke and he is going to the team doc for therapy. He should be ok is what I'm told. BUT doc must confirm that. It's all hear say from me.

Well stated Ram04…LOL…That was exactly the thought which crossed my mind…

Raceland 20-19.

Russell's offense has always been basic, but this year more than ever the main question for Raceland's defense is "can they stop Travis Jones?". He has essentially been a one man wrecking crew for Russell this year. Here's his game-by-game statistical breakdown:

 

East Carter 170 yards 2 TD

Greenup Co 71 yards 3 TD (1 Punt Return, 1 KO Return)

Ironton 28 yards

Ashland 46 yards

Boyd Co 176 yards 2 TD

West Carter 260 yards 1 TD

Fleming Co 163 yards 4 TD (1 KO Return)

Mason Co 195 yards 3 TD

 

This doesn't include last week's Lewis County game where I think he had over 200 yards again along with 3 TD's. Consider also the fact that Russell doesn't have a single QB (out of the 4 who have received significant playing time) who has passed for over 100 yards on the season and you can clearly concoct the formula for stopping this year's Russell team.

 

Notice the 2 games that stand out like sore thumbs, against Ashland and Ironton. The other loss was to Mason County, but that one was over before Jones got started with Russell's 1st half fumbled snaps and punt block.

 

As for Russell being a "good" team or not, I guess it just depends on who you compare them to. I do think it takes a "good" team to beat them, though.

I'm really impressed with the way he has run the ball the last three games. Must be some great blocking. I need to ask one thing though. How do you run for 260 yards and only have one td? Fleming Co has a very big line. Russell's line must have pushed FC around alot. And 195 yards rushing vs Mason Co is just awesome. I can't wait to see him run and the holes the line tries to open up when we play. This will be a big challenge for our Defense. I know the atmosphere will be great. I hope the game will be the same. It should be. I'm sure our defensive coach will think of some way to slow down the Russell Locomotive. I'm not offering good luck to you and all of the Russell family. But I do hope we all play injury free. The good luck stuff will come next week! You have a good team I know that. But it's not one of the better teams of the past that people want to see. But you can look at the stats and scores and see that improvement has been made through the season.

My youngest son told me a few minutes ago that his class (Worthington E.S.) only had 13 kids in it today. I think his class has 24 students. Thats over 50%. So yes the flu could have a big outcome on the game.

You're completely right, it's just that small percentage that makes the most noise, thank God those people are no longer around here. But, most of the fans do get a long and enjoy this game.

 

:thumb::thumb: I agree Ram, I am not saying there is no longer hard feelings between Raceland and Russell, there certainly are and always have been, probably always will be. I am not trying to start anything with that and just stating the truth. I would be untruthful if I said that I have no hard feelings towards Russell bc I do. Having said that, those feelings are from this rivalry from years and years ago. Some on here I am sure do not realize what a rival this used to be and some of the things that happened around the game and in both communities by fans of both schools, no one was innocent.I am glad that it is not like that anymore, that was my only concern in renewing the series. Both sides have been great since the renewal of this series and imo that is the way it should be. I have no problems with any Russell fan/poster on this site now. That subject along with others have already been mentioned earlier in this thread, they no longer matter, certainly are not missed so there is no reason to mention them again.

 

Now, for this game one of my main worries/concerns is containing the Jones kid (Russell rb), he can break a game open in one play and is a playmaker. Also, Russell's line...a back can go nowhere without the "big uglys" up front. I predict nothing on Raceland games so I will only make one promise......Raceland will show up. As for the lead that Raceland has on his threads poll I believe that is easily explained by the larger number of Raceland posters as opposed to Russell posters on bgp.

I am going to this game, I got to say I enjoy both Russell's and Raceland's fan bases alot, it makes a game like this fun to watch. For me it all most makes my season complete when the leafs turn colors and that chill in the air that makes fall what it is and yes High school football playoffs, this game will have it all. The competition between these two rival programs is just icing on the cake for me. This is a hard pick for me to make, Raceland and Russell have two of the best staff's in the state. Raceland I will predict now has a real shot at playing LCA in the Quarter finals of the playoffs, but I think Russell, when it comes down to it, will play better in the second half and maybe overtime because Russell is bigger up front and has a better running game, Russell winning 28-21 OT over Racland. Oh ya I can't sleep this is why my post is so late at night.
