Caldwell is a spread team, which tends to have some problems in the rain. Hopkins Central has a big offensive line, which tends to give you an advantage in such conditions.

 

We also run the spread. And through the years I have noticed that a team well coached will hold on to the ball nomatter what the condition. I know the passing game slows down a little but still we have had lots go our way in the rain, muddy fields ect. I do know where your coming from though. But I hear that alot. We lost because of the refs, rain, muddy field, heat to cold ect

Mayfield and down years? I can't really recall Mayfield having a down year. Mayfields down years are up years for most teams.

The reason I made the initial comment about Mayfield having the horsepower to compete with LCA is that based on LCAs two toughest games (CPA and Catholic) their toughest games come against teams who can throw the ball, while they tend to handle the running game very well. Mayfield can throw the ball. They have one of the best passing attacks in WKY behind Lone Oak and Fort Campbell. You can argue strength of schedule till the cows come home, but I think how the two teams match up against each other means just as much.

 

I can tell you this. We run the spread. We have for years. Last year we were ranked No.1 for nine weeks. The pass defense and d-line play was to much for us in the second half. They came from 16 down that half and beat us by 7. They have all of the skilled positions back. I bet it will be hard to throw on them. The D-backs are tall and fast. The QB and RB are going D-1 and so on. I've never seen so much talent on one team before.

You say that strength of schedule doesn't mean that much. I disagree. Teams will tend to play up to the comp. they play. If you are used to playing tough every down of every game you will be more prepared when it starts getting down to the 3rd and 4th rounds. If you are winning by 40+ every game and you don't have to played at the top of your game. I think it will hurt you down the road. Thats why I look at who they have played more then the records and scores.

LCA wins out the rest of their schedule by 46+ with maybe an exception of Corbin.

Ok, Mayfield play each other which is tough game for both and don't they both play Murray High, who is a very solid team as well. Neither team can help they have to play the Fulton's and Ballard.

I'll be the 1st to admit that Mayfields schedule is down compared to the past yrs, but, only because the so called traditional powers are down from past yrs, but, let me ask you this, what's so incredible about LCAs...Lynn Camp, CAL, Nicholas Co, Breathitt...Sorry, but, those teams don't strike any fear in anyone...CPA is traditionally pretty good, but, this yrs version doesn't happen to be one of there better teams, by any stretch and this is probably Lex Caths worse team in 10 yrs and they still beat LCA... I know Breathitt is usually good, but, so it Tilghman and this isn't one of those yrs... Lex Cath is still a bigger school and a much better than average team, but, could they handle Trousdale Co, maybe, maybe not... CAL is the next best team they've played and they are an improved squad, but, a 10-7 win over an average Holy Cross team doesn't impress me, sorry...Graves Co would beat Holy Cross by 30+..Heck, one of Mayfields worse teams ever last year handled Holy Cross on the road with relative ease... CPA was manhandled by Ft Campbell and thats no disgrace, but, LCA squeeked by that same CPA team, so, LCA definately isn't in Ft Campbells class(neither is Mayfield, by the way), but, the point is that proves that they aren't so great that they're untouchable to all other 1a teams, especially 30 pts better...Just really not as impressed with the so called tough schedule that seems to be floating around abt LCA...It may be better than Mayfields, but, if it is, it's at most, slightly better...

It just depends on where you look at the polls at. Tennessee football looks very confusing so many rankings have different things. Here's an overall ranking for Trousdale.

It comes down to this , Mayfield has a very solid team with great speed, solid line play, good special team play and good qb play with intelligence. I dont know who these Rams people are but I'm beginning to think they really dont know 1A football. We know LCA has a good team and maybe they are the best team. I dont know that because I havent seen them play except on the internet. I know Beechwood has a good team but I also know its not as good as in years past. Do I think they can win class 1A? Yes is my answer because I know they will be a tough out and what they have done in the past. Do I think Mayfield can win class 1A? Yes, because over the years just like the Beechwoods and the Danville's and the NCC teams we have seen what kind of team it takes to win a state title. Mayfield has that kind of team regardless of whom they have played. Anyone that has seen Mayfield play this season and knows 1A football knows they are a legit title contender.

I've never in one post have said Mayfield will be in Bowling Green. I have said they have a very good chance. I will say with confidence that LCA, Mayfield or Beechwood will be class 1A champs.
