Here are some numbers from Maxpreps. Strength of Schedule Mayfield -4.2 and Crittenden County -4.5 Beechwood 13.1

 

Which is correct. Beechwood may have lost 3 games this season. And Mayfield and Crittenden county are undefeated. But IMO Mayfield nor Crittenden County could beat ANY of the teams Beechwood has lost to this season. No 1A team could.

Bottom line is, pride and tradition don't graduate, and winning is contagious as is losing. Crittenden County aside from a state title in 85', had always been losers. A class came in in 96' where several freshman played and started. They went 10-2 that year and aside from 1 of their 4 years won 10+ games every year and that got it started. Traditions start somewhere. When these kids in small towns like Mayfield and Crittenden Co. grow up watching and just assuming that you'll be a winner, its a frame of mind and confidence goes a long way on this level.

The AP sure thinks Trousdale's a quality team...They've moved up to 2a this year and still rank #1 in state after a 15-0 1a championship in 2008...There new head coach last year is now 20-1 in his tenure there with that 1 loss coming to Mayfield...LCA HAS NOT played a team of that caliber this year, period...Lex Cath may be close, but, they didn't win that one either...

Latest polls show some more movement in 2A. FCS drops from #1 to #5....TC moves into the

#1 slot, Boyd remains at #2, McKenzie moves to #3, Adamsville to #4.

SP still sits alone at the #1 spot in 1A.

Another one of Mayfields preseason scrimmages was against Milan, Tn, currently ranked #2 right behind Alcoa and is standing at 7-0 and also coming off a 2008 season in which they played in the championship game and ended the season 14-1, losing to Alcoa... They defeated Mayfield 55-35, but, the varsity portion was 41-35 and a back and forth battle that could have gone either way...I'd think playing a team like that may help prepare them a little bit, wouldn't you? This is also the class Christ Presbyterian plays in and they're nowhere to be found in the Top 20...

It just depends on where you look at the polls at. Tennessee football looks very confusing so many rankings have different things. Here's an overall ranking for Trousdale.

Crittenden County

Massac, Illinois 5-1, Averaging 31 points per game this year, Crit Co. held them to 7. That is the least they have scored in a game all season.

Hopkins County Central 2-4, they have only scored 48 points folks, with a 2 touchdown game having only occured once. They have only scored 7touchdowns ALL SEASON, teams score more than that in one game!

McClean County 2-4, only wins were against Todd County Central and Webster County, both have yet to win a ballgame this season.

Webster County 0-7, never scored more than two touchdowns in a single game. Have been outscored 59-320.

Caldwell County 2-4, lost to Hopkins County Central who's stats speak for themselves above.

Ballard Memorial 1-5, who's only win was over Fulton City who is winless this season and been outscored 11-384.

 

Mayfield should definately beat this team this year. The only reason I even put this team in the rankings is because they haven't actually had a close game with anyone thus far. Closest game was 20 points against the Illionois team.

Until this team is truly tested they could be a 4th ranked team or down there with Raceland, Fairview, Hazard.

McLean County also had a one-point loss to Owensboro Catholic. Two of their other three losses are to ranked teams (Crittenden County and Allen County), and the other is to Daviess County, a 6A team.

 

Bottom line ... McLean is better than your summary seems to give them credit for.

 

If I remember, Caldwell's loss to Hopkins Central was in the rain, and I would consider it an upset.

 

I don't think Crittenden is as good as Lexington Christian, Mayfield and Beechwood, but they're probably as strong as anyone else in Class A.

I'm amazed at the total lack of respect that Mayfield is getting outside of WKY, anyone who knows ANYTHING about KY HS Football knows that Mayfield will give anyteam a game. That's just how they are and have always been. And if Mayfield plays LCA in the title game. You can mark it down they won't lose by 30 or more thats for sure.

 

I really do respect Mayfield's past. They have had lots and lots of very good teams. They have also had some down years. Just like all teams go through. I'm talking about today and and next week and on and on. Not the past.

I also respect your thoughts on a LCA vs Mayfield game. I would love to see that game. And we may get to. I have not seen LCA or Mayfield play this year. I'm looking at strength of schedules and returning starters from last year. And I know that LCA has 4 div 1 players being recruited right now. And 3 div II. They also have one div.1 prospect that is a jr lineman. Thats alot of power and speed to go up against no matter who you are or how much tradition you have. They have a over the top talented team this year. This just never happens. And I'm sure Mayfield has a great team. But do they have on this team the talent that matches with LCA? Do they have Div 1 players being recruited and how many. How many div II and div III. If you can give me these answers I may change my mind. Because I don't like LCA. We play them every year. We are 2-3 vs them the last 5 games. Just like Mayfield I respect them. And I don't care about their past. Only what is happening now.

Caldwell is a spread team, which tends to have some problems in the rain. Hopkins Central has a big offensive line, which tends to give you an advantage in such conditions.

Mayfield and down years? I can't really recall Mayfield having a down year. Mayfields down years are up years for most teams.

Looks like both Mayfieldand Crittenden Co's location hurts them. They have to play out of state teams to get some solid competition.

And playing out state teams will not impress most people no matter what they have won last year or what they're ranked. Also like to add I have been to Mayfield. When I was in high school we went there for team camp my senior season in 2003. Very nice facilities there and a nice town :thumb:.

That all may be true. But bottomline is they have only won two games and those two games are against a team who hasn't won a game.

The reason I made the initial comment about Mayfield having the horsepower to compete with LCA is that based on LCAs two toughest games (CPA and Catholic) their toughest games come against teams who can throw the ball, while they tend to handle the running game very well. Mayfield can throw the ball. They have one of the best passing attacks in WKY behind Lone Oak and Fort Campbell. You can argue strength of schedule till the cows come home, but I think how the two teams match up against each other means just as much.
