Who Will Be UofL's Next Football Coach

Featured Replies

I'd like to see who/what is on peoples mind involving the current state of UofL football. Obviously, they still have a coach. However, it is seeming more and more like he isn't going to be around much longer. That being said, as a fan of the program, I hope they win ever game the rest of the year for him.

But, as a realist, I know that's not going to happen. I've been thinking about who TJ may look to next. Personally, I'm hoping for another young offensive mind like Petrino. I think it creates much more energy and attracts recruits faster.

My top 4 (that I think is a realistic chance):

Chris Peterson (would he leave BSU? Bigger budget and the BCS will help)

Gus Malzahn (the guy is the a offensive genius)

Charlie Strong (big resume, just needs a shot)

Kyle Wittingham (similar to Peterson)

Names that are rumored a lot:

Phil Fulmer- A lot of people are down on him. I'd take him, finished 1 or two in the SEC East 13 out of 16 years.

Tommy Tubberville- No thanks.

Jon Gruden- (this would be great, but I have no clue why this message board rumor keeps coming up. He has a great job now.

Karl Dorrel- Was a candidate last time, friends with Jurich.

Peterson would be a HUGE land!

Hopefully it's Bill Parcells. I heard his farm is doing well here from when he wanted the UK job... :ohbrother:

I know you are being sarcastic, but I am interested to know if you are directing the sarcasm toward my wish list. Basically, do you think the names I threw out were too far-fetched??? Or just poking fun at UK?

This guy, Gus Malzahn, would probably be my number one option right now. He is going to be well sought after very soon.

 I was just poking a little fun. Although I don't really see Peterson or Whittingham as a legit possibility. I would definitely take either one, but it doesn't seem like a logical step for either one of them at this point in their careers.

Maybe they can pick up Fulmer so that Kentucky fans will have a chance at beating him once in his career... :sssh:

Personally, I'd prefer Tuberville over Fulmer.

I'd take Charlie Strong. Why on Earth would Kyle Whittingham or Chris Petersen leave their jobs for Louisville? Tuberville maybe.

Peterson won't come to UL or anywhere for that matter. The main reason he hasn't taken a big job in the past is because he has a son who is suffering from a terminal illness. The family loves their doctors and his son is happy where they are. Peterson has said in the past that he plans on staying at Boise citing this as a major contributing factor.

For those asking why Peterson or Whittingham would leave to come to UofL. It's real simple. BCS and $$$.

The Big East is the easist path to a BCS game/shot at a title. A non BCS school is never going to get a title shot. Utah proved that last year.

Money is the biggest reason. Peterson is making $900,000 per year right now. Compared to Kragthorpe's $1,450,000 (that's right, million). Whittingham only makes 700K. UofL can pay much more money and provide things the other two can't. Peterson may not leave due to personal reasons, as mentioned in the past though. Just saying UofL can pay big bucks to a coach...

what coaches make

As a KY fan I see nothing wrong with Kragthorpe and think all of this speculation is premature. :D

According to the UofL salary database that the Herald-Leader has posted on its site today, Kragthorpe's salary is $1.1 million. I'm guessing the other $350K is made up through endorsements and other supplements.

Yeah, every coach on that list is that way. The university pays a certain amount and the rest is made up by other stuff.

Wow, with that kind of payday Charlie better have a spectacular season. As in no more ND losses otherwise they are overpaying him!
