Would Highlands Rather play in the GCL or in Kentucky?

Featured Replies

Do you have any idea how many times St. Xavier has played on National TV? Too many to count.

I said this after the game and I'll say it again, this game meant a whole heckuva lot more to Highlands than it did St. Xavier. That doesn't diminish what Highlands did...please don't take it to mean that. But please understand that beating Elder and winning the GCL means a whole lot more than beating an out of state school on National Television. St. Xavier is already known as a national program...Highlands isn't, nor will they ever be. Dale's dreams of competing for a "National Championship" are just that....dreams. Highlands has way too much going against it to ever, and I do mean EVER, have a legitimate shot at a "National Championship." As I have said before, win 5A year in and year out competing against 35 other schools, or whatever ridiculous number it is, and be happy with that. Every two decades or so pull out a win over a big boy from Cincy and throw a two-week long party. This is as good as it is ever going to get for Highlands and that is tremendous in and of itself.

As for the Highlands playing in the GCL? Good grief....you'd be looking at a 1-3 record almost every single year. Ridiculous.

PS: As for the earlier question comparing Byrnes and STA against Highlands....are you kidding me? Byrnes and STA would blow through Highlands like they were Cooper's JV squad...silliness.:ohbrother:

Your predicting Highlands would be 1-3 in the GCL?Now you say Byrnes and STA would blow the birds out. I went back to the prediction thread of HHS -Cincy X and came to the conclusion that your predictions aren't worth a hoot.

We gotta get the enrollment up. Need a ton of new houses built in the Ft.

That's OK, we have about 1,000 apartments in the process on Memorial Parkway. That should do it!

Food for thought.....Where would Highlands rank nationally if you were comparing like-size schools? Obviously it would be hard for Highlands to compete with the big schools in TX, CA and FL. But what about the schools with 400-600 boys?

I think that is why HHS plays up... Dale wants to be compared to the top teams in the nation. Not viewed as one of the small schools wtih a decent program playing football.

Hopefully, there will be some bounce off of these ranknings and some 'birds will get the opportunity of a life time to play at the next level. Couldn't think of a better compliment to Dale and his staff...

This week's USA Today Super 25 national rankings was released today, and Highlands is ranked 9th nationally. Of course this season is not over yet, but as an FYI Highlands has NEVER finished a season ranked in the top 10 in the USA Today Super 25. If Highlands can finish the year undefeated (and granted, that's a big 'if'), they are setting themselves up to be something really special nationally and historically.

And this is a tremendous way to look at it. If Highlands found a way to finish in the top 10 nationally, that would be absolutely amazing.

Folks need to really think about what that means. There are over 16,000+ high schools playing football in the United States today. To be considered by anyone to be one of the top 10 in the nation is an absolutely incredible honor.

FWIW on this site, IMO there is so little difference between #1 and #25 most years that you could flip a coin and pick a winner. It just so happens that this year, St. Thomas Aquinas is light years better than anyone in the nation. I truly do believe that. I've seen them in person and on film multiple times. Their speed and athleticism is out of this world. Calpreps predicts that they'd beat Colerain this year, 31-21....yeah, right. They'd drop 50+ on my Cards and I doubt we'd find the goaline more than twice.

Best of luck the rest of the way and I look forward to Highlands celebrating yet another State Championship.

Very classy post!:thumb:

I agree that it's an honor, but it doesn't stand up under much scrutiny. Highlands has a pretty good team this year. They won a game that most, myself included, thought they had little chance to win. That said, this is still just someone's opinion, just like what the NCAA champion winds up being when all is said and done. To me, the only thing that matters or counts is a KHSAA championship. All of the national stuff is just vapors. (For example, wasn't Elder recently ranked 3rd or 4th?)

Not an attack on you or your post, CardinalsFan. Just an opinion.:thumb:

So, you're saying that Highlands wouldn't fair well?

I think that they could, if they play fundamentally sound football.

Later.

HHS' success is based on fundamental football and speed relative to their competition.

The two teams mentioned are in a different league speed-wise so HHS would be the slower of the teams. What do they do then?

Before I start getting blasted by HHS fans and having PMs coming my way we're talking about the #1 and #2 team in the country who play at a completely different level.

Highlands is nowhere near Brynes or Aquinas... Aquinas has double digit numbers of players going to big D-1 schools like Flordia and Michigans.. Highlands can not produce that kind of talent

How is this thread garnering this much pub?:lol:It's so pointless and it stays at the top.

Just when I was ready to meet you at the bottom of Anderson Ferry Road, JK!!!, I finally agree with you on something. A couple of years ago, the 2007 team was ranked like 24th in the Maxpreps preseason and I watched a game between the number 22 and 23 teams and if those teams were ranked that, then HHS was not even top 100 or worse. These two teams were just on a different level.

I think most fans will just grasp this and enjoy it for what's it worth. Hopefully. You know what, they still have 8 games to win. So this means nothing right now. There is a blue colonel team in two weeks that would love nothing more than to knock off HHS. I don't think it can happen(sorry OldGuy) but you never know. HHS did something special last 2 games ago even though that would be much more monumental. (sorry again OG)!!!

The Birds need to keep an even keel about themselves and win one a week.

That's a good ending point for this one. Good luck to Highlands on the remainder of the season, I am sure it will be one to remember for many years to come, and I guess they will have to remain in Kentucky and not join the GCL.
