Rio awarded 2016 Summer Olympics

Featured Replies

Question ? Since the 2016 " Summer Olympics " will be held in the southern hemisphere , will they be held during the northern hemisphere's winter ?

They were held during the normal time when they were in Sydney.

Maybe we should have sent Joe Wilson. He could have called the other presenters liars.:D

I wish the games were being held in Chicago, regardless of the political stripe of the pitchmen/women. A friend of mine was a "torch-runner" when they were in Atlanta; that would be cool.

"We sent our A-Team: the president [barack Obama], his wife [Michelle Obama], Oprah Winfrey, the Olympic athletes, the mayor [Richard Daley]," Jackson said of the Chicago Olympic delegation that traveled to Copenhagen. "We sent our A-Team. It will be interesting to know what happened."

What? Oprah Winfrey is part of Chicago's A-Team? What a joke...

The participants should be happy about this. Let's see Rio, or Chicago? Hmmm...

You got THAT right! :thumb:

I actually think they were a couple weeks later than normal during the Sydney Olympics. Maybe more toward the end of September as it was beginning to warm some. But either way, it was only a marginal change and I doubt it will happen in Rio.

Looks like Obama waisted his time and our money again like every thing els he does.

One news report I read said the IOC was angry with the USOC over financial issues and that is most likely why Chicago wasn't chosen. The Windy City was the first of the four cities to be voted out.

Chicago is part of the United States, last I checked.

Plus, he can do plenty of business on Air Force One, and he even met with Gen. McChrystal in Copenhagen.

That is not the job of the president and the only reason he met with the general is that he was embarassed by 60 minutes.

What is the job of the President? To promote the interests of the United States? Some would look upon the Copenhagen trip as doing exactly that, regardless of whether or not you agree with it.

He met with McChrystal ... that's official business, regardless of what you think the motive might be. That certainly is his job.

Actually I feel as if the Constitution was fairly clear in enumerating the role of the President. I'm not entirely certain that lobbying for the Olympics to be held in his hometown necessarily falls under the category of faithfully executing the laws of our nation or performing to the best of his ability to protect and defend the Constitution.

Amaxing that this thread has 1/3 the posts that the "Obamas Fail in Personal Pitch..." thread in P&R has. Wait a second, maybe it's not so amazing after all.

Would it be appropriate to assume that there has to be some racism in the IOC turning down Obama's plea? It seems everytime someone disagrees with Obama, race is involved, so I guess there is racism here too.:ohbrother:

I think the only race involved here will be the ones in the Olympics.

You're either making a real reach or a joke that isn't funny.
