Hartline had a bad stretch of plays in the UL game in the 3rd quarter. However, other than that, he has looked much better than last year. He will be fine. Last year he looked like a first year starter, but in the bowl game, he showed a nice improvement. Same this year, ... he looks to be developing just fine.

Those 2 plays plus the Locke fumble gave Louisville the ball the whole 3rd quarter. It made the good things Hartline did hard for some to remember.

I find it amusing that smart teams do this and that, and since UK isn't they're not very smart. Best I can remember UK pretty much sucked when Brooks got here, but by taking and developing 2 and 3 star recruits has made us respectable. In coach Brooks I trust.

Brooks has made a living off developing over-looked talent. Neither of these QB's fit that mold. It's not like UK is used to 4 star talent. As for it being smart, I just want an example of another successful team doing it. I think that 7-6 or 8-5 has just become exceptable at UK. Fans are happy with a bowl win. That's all fine and dandy, but in the SEC you simply do not stay on winning without constant improvement. UK has improved the speed and talent level on the squad which has led to them winning more games, if they are to continue to improve they need to take the next step, and play like the big boys do.

 

I wasn't a big fan of taking both of them in the first place. I think that Newton is the better player, I think the coaches like him better and want him to be the better player out of the two. I feel like Moss should have been told to go elsewhere. I don't see Newton making a position change, I think with some time he will be a very good QB. Had they only have taken him, I would definitely say to red-shirt him, let him play in spots next year and let him take over his sophomore year.

 

So I'll concede to redshirt him, but I think that also means that Moss had better play lights out or look for another team if he wants to play.

Newton will not play this year unless something drastic happens with Hartline. He will redshirt.

So you're saying Brooks doesn't know how to develope elite talent. USC always has several highly rated QB's, and I am in no way saying UK is on the same level as USC. Really don't see how UK was in the position to tell either one of these kids to look elsewhere you never know what can happen injury wise. I agree pretty much with redshirting one instead of both, but if Moss shoulder isn't ready they probably don't have much choice there. Isn't Moss supposed to be a stud baseball pitcher also?

That makes absolutely NO sense IMO. Why would UK not want them both? Find out which one is better and play that one. If the lesser of the two choose to transfer, so be it. By that rationale, USC wouldn't have all those great HB's. They recruit EVERY great player and the ones that win, play. It isn't Brooks' responsibility to "tell Moss to go elsewhere", it is his responsibility to recruit kids that increase UK's chances of winning. I just don't understand that logic at all!

Cannot compare USC's RB's IMO. They play 5-7 RB's every game. I don't think anyteam wants to play two quarterbacks. I think if you are going to recruit a QB, know that he is the guy you want to go with and stay with him. Look at Snead decommiting from UF when Tebow gave his verbal.

 

You should get one QB per year, IMO, no matter what. Stocking up in one year usually never works. Look at what Rich Rod was left with at Michigan. Sure he brought in Forcier and Robinson, but if Robinson doesn't work out he will be moved to DB, WR or maybe even RB.

 

If USC doesn't pick up two highly touted QB's, then no one should. I know you should take great talent whenever you can get it, I just don't think you recruit thinking that one of the two guys you get will get beat out and have to sit his entire career or leave. That is really kind of a sad and slightly immoral way of doing it. They have will have a chance, but obviously one of the two is going to get left out to dry. As fans it's all about the wins, but these are kids, and from what I've heard pretty good kids.

I'm glad you feel the obligation and responsibility to tell 18 - 21 year old young men what they should and shouldn't do. That is laughable. Kids should be able to come and go as they please. That is why there are rules dealing with transfers.

Ok that's fine. It's no big deal. No legit team has this problem, so UK will continue to just be average. No big deal.

 

It's just something no one else does. You would think that at least one legit program might do this if it was a good idea. Once again, only super rebuilding jobs like Michigan need to do this. If that means turning a four star away then so be it. QB's transferring out is a terrible situation. As a Canes guy, I have seen it more than most in the last few years. So when you take them, and redshirt them, you know one will leave, I don't see why you put yourself in that position.
