September 7, 200917 yr Alright guys, its been a while since a fresh music thread on here. What do you guys feel are some of the greatest Guitar Performances of all time. I'm talking all around awesomeness. Factor in soloing, moment, the experience, the significance, or heck even if its just that you like it that good. There have been some great acts over the years, and some even greater guitarists. What to you stands out as some of the best moments in guitar history.
September 7, 200917 yr Author Even though I posted the thread, it will still be hard for me. However, I'll start us off with some Jimi Hendrix. It would be easy to use any of his performances at Woodstock for this thread, and so easy to use his Woodstock rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. Of course one could also argue that Hendrix's first big splash made in America at the Monterey Pop festival in 67', and his epic guitar sacrifice during his performance of "Wild Thang" could take the cake. But for me, and not taking anything away from those performances, and with all due respect here is a moment in music history that sends chills down me every time I see or hear it. To date I am pretty sure this is still an un-recorded track, and Hendrix only performed the song on a couple of different occasions, each being very different but very much as brilliant. Pretty much turning his guitar loose to the topic of anti-war in Vietnam, anti-violence, Jimi Hendrix's performance of "Machine Gun" has to go down as one of the greatest Guitar Performances of All Time. You be the judge. Whole performance is great, but in case you are impatient Jimi goes into total face melt mode at around 4:30 in the film.

September 8, 200917 yr Author I'm glad I got the chance to see Eddie V a couple of years ago in Indy when Van Halen reunited with Diamond Dave. It was truly an honor to get to watch him shred. I have now seen 2 of my top four favorite guitarists live, and one is dead (Hendrix). If somehow I could see Jimmy Page that would give me three out of the possible three I could see, but the only problem is Pagey isn't playing. Getting to watch Ed. V and Zakk Wylde though was a treat.
