August 28, 200917 yr A customer of mine that builds wind farms is always looking. They currently have projects going in OK, UT, CA, ID, and ND. Jobs starting soon in MO, IL, and TX. Hard work, brutal heat in the summer, bitter cold in the winter. At least 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. $25/hr + $100 per diem. They pay travel time to and from each project once, plus will fly you home on their dime every 6 weeks. Not a good job for a married guy, but a good opportuninty for someone to get some cash built up in a hurry. The overtime adds up fast on these jobs. They have a very tough drug testing policy. That is why they are always in need of workers. Just curious, but how so? :idunno:

To my understanding, they also do random testing of a large number of workers on their job sites. This is the type of work where I'm sure a company's workers comp insurance is extremely high. The majority of these windmill towers are about 300' high. The blades are 140' - 160' long. And the cranes used to set these things in place are huge. On top of that, the workers connecting everything inside the towers have to be good climbers. Although it would be almost impossible to fall from the top all the way to the bottom, it is still a dangerous job and they need everyone on their toes.

Definitely makes sense to make sure workers are drug-free!

Convergys has a few business offerings. They do a lot of billing for cell phone companies. They do HR management as well. They also have call centers for customers ie they are the first line of support for many companies.

Convergys has multiple lines of business. There is the HRM side that is Human Resource Management. It's a piece that I hope they're looking to sell, because it's killing the company. Then there is IMG that handles cable, cell phone, wireline, satellite, etc billing and rating. Then there is the CMG side that handles the call centers. They also have their own marketing research department. I believe the Erlanger location is a call center.

It's frustrating and depressing for everyone. But if we can't make light of difficult, stressful situations, we'd be moping around all day long. I don't look at it as a joke at someone's unfortunate expense so much as a commentary on how screwed-up our economy is.
