Kool Moe Dee was one of the masters of "battle rap," where rappers would face off at clubs and "throw down," so to speak, with the crowd determining who had the better lyrical skills. His battle with LL Cool J -- Moe Dee alleged LL was bitin' his style -- spilled over into ugliness on both artists' records, with both taking some pretty mean shots at one another, to the benefit of listeners. Both artists clearly brought out the best in each other. In my opinion, Moe Dee settled it with "Let's Go," which is his best work, but it did linger on. But if Moe Dee won the battle, James Todd clearly won the war, and said so with he and his crew laughing it up at the end of either side one or two (I can't remember) of his album "Mama Said Knock You Out," proclaiming, "The joke's on you jack." Moe Dee largely fell out of sight after that, as LL went on to MTV and later movie fame. This is bad...but I've never heard of Kool Moe Dee. It seems I've heard his name referenced in some later rap songs. He was bad news, no other way to describe it.

August 31, 200917 yr So you're a Wu Tang fan too? I've never met anyone that really likes them. Wu Tang Clan ain't nuthin to ......., but yeah, Wu Tang Clan is the greatest hip hop group in the history of all rap/hip hop music. I challenge anyone to prove me wrong on that one.
August 31, 200917 yr I saw somebody mention it in one of the above posts but under a different name, but I have to agree, Deep Cover by Snoop and Dre is a classic. I still cannot come up with a good list because there is just way too many good raps to name. Mid-Late 90's is when Rap was Rap and there was a lot of fire spit during that time period. Now everything just seems so commercialized. Every year you get a handful of one time wonder rappers who are the hottest thing going for a week, end up on a NOW cd, then you never hear from them again. There needs to be a resurgence in RAP.
