This was a dandy to watch. Neither defense had much success stopping their opponents offense. It's my opinion that PC was not "ready" for this one. I think they thought they'd win it easily. When NL showed they could play with PC, PC appeared to be a bit frustrated, and got some silly penalties that cost them dearly.

 

Congrats to Coach Larkey and his NL team. Good luck to both teams in the remainder of their seasons.

Considering how tough things have been for the NL program the past few years, and the fact that PC was in the top 10 in most 5A rankings, yep.

This was one of the 2 best games (wins) I have ever seen at The Jungle. The 2005 NL upset of Madison Central and tonight's game.

 

There were a few things that swung this back and forth game to NL.

 

1. Conditioning - this NL team looked to be in midseason condition on the first game. VERY impressive.

2. Turnovers - I think NL had 1 and PC had 2.

3. Penalties - Both teams had some silly penalties, but PC had more. In the 2nd half, PC really seemed to get frustrated that they couldn't put NL away.

4. 2 straight onside kick recoveries for NL. 1 to end the 1st half and go in with the lead and the 2nd to open the 2nd half. That was HUGE.

5. Playcalling - NL seemed to call the right play at the right time and PC seemed to be on the heels. PC could score quickly when they did, but NL put together several nice long drive, eating up clock and further frustrating PC.

 

I was very impressed with Muse and company's speed. They have several kids who can flat out fly. But if they are going to live up to what this team is capable of, ... they have to find a way to stop the run. NL ran the ball on them all night long.

 

This was a GREAT game. The most emotional moment of the night came when with 3 seconds left, Chris' dad Coach Tom Larkey, made his way to the field, and had tears in his eyes. The joy that momma and poppa Larkey have to feel for Chris and what this win means was very evident. Saw a family pic with Chris, his parents, brother Daq & Chris' wife and kids. A great family moment for a wonderful family!

Me too. Glad to be proved wrong, but I missed the boat on this one. I didn't think NL would be at this point this early, being Larkey's first game as head coach.

 

Chris 'Wildfire' Larkey, brings an intensity that the kids have latched onto. He told me Thursday night 'I think we can run on them.' Boy was he right on that one. When he asked assistant principal at NL, Greg Huff, what he expected, Huff said "I want to see you compete." Larkey lowered his head, looked up at Huff and said "But, I wanna win." Granted it is just one game, but to see the kids in this kind of shape, playing that hard was wonderful.

I still think they have a wealth of talent and speed on that Maroon team. But they have to learn how to stop the run and maintain their composure to live up to their potential. After all that happened in the past 2 weeks between these two, it was good to see a game that far exceeded nearly everyone's expectations as far as excitement.

Should be a great rivalry game next week! Somerset coming off of a big win and Pulaski a disappointing loss. Get there early, it should be an exciting game!

North Laurel's defense held PC's offense to 1 reception for about 8 yards. They were kept in check, they only have up 27 points on defense, pretty food considering this was a high powered monster rolling into London. North Laurel only punted 1 time. Awesome game throughout.

I agree. NL forced turnovers and capitalized on them at key times. They never quit and had an answer every time PC came up with a big play. This team is way ahead of where I thought they would be right now. I wonder how many yards Wardrup had? He had a huge game. #78 on the NL offensive line appeared to blowing out whomever lined up in front of him for a good portion of the game. NL kept PC off balance with some very clever, gutsy and timely playcalling.

WOW!!! Great Job Jags! I will admit I drank the Kool-aid also and thought Pulaski would be too much for NL. NL has had some talent just never seemed to have everyone going in the same direction in the past, looks like that may be a thing of the past.

I am with you. I picked PC big in this one. I believed that Larkey would build a winner, but felt that the AD didn't do him any favors scheduling PC as Larkey's first game as coach. I was wrong as well.

 

I still think PC has loads of talent, but the penalties, turnovers and inability to stop the run really hurt them. I thought Larkey and his staff called a brilliant game.
