How easy it is to set in the bleachers and coach the fans need to stay with the new attitude it was only one loss.I don't believe it's ever been the coaching as much as the support. Keep your heads up Greenup!

Hey Coup I got bad news.....One game and already some rumblings in the crowd about the coach. How sad is that after one game? Like I said a few weeks back we got a good coach, it's just a matter of giving him a chance. People need to be understanding and give him some time, it's not like he took over the best team in the district.

 

All in all I thought the team showed great effort but was hurt by bad line play. We just got man handled up front, which hurts bad with the type of offense we are trying to run. Until it improves this could be a long year.

 

Great game by Lyle other than that not too many more brite spots.

 

Coach Copley and his coaching staff are an excellent bunch of young talented coaches and they will get these kids and this program where GCHS wants it to be, tough game, Ashland was by far a better team, very good, one of the best Ashland teams starting out I have seen in 20 years of officiating football (2 years from the stands, lol), these boys just need to learn from this shake it off, hold their heads up and go out next week and give Russell all they can handle and bring home a W!!!:thumb:

This has been Greenups problem for years. The playbook has never been that balanced to begin with but when you run the ball 45 times out of 46 plays its not that hard to stop. You know it, I know it, therefore I'm sure the other coach knows it. Stack the box, stop the run, game over.

Johnson Central ring a bell? How about Belfry? How about Bell? All run the ball 99.9% of the time and win 99.9 percent of their games. Let the Nay-sayers leave after game one. GC has 6 seniors, and 4 that play. Ashland is the best team in the area. Trust me, I was disappointed on Friday also, but GC wont see a team with that much team speed the rest of the year. One positive people probably didnt notice was that Ashland players were cramping all night. GC was in great shape, we had 1 kid cramp all night. That will help this year in a close game, you can bet on that.

#10, you are so right. Belfry, Johnson central and the rest can run that offense because they have MEN on the front line. Big cornfed boys with experience. Greenup county hasn't had that for some time now. So sorry Coupon but I dont see this offense working to Greenup's advantage this year. And they really dont have the athletes to throw the ball either so i'll just have to say it'll be another long season for the muskies.

Now, this brings up an interesting point: what offense should Greenup County run?

 

Last year, and Too Much Pride has brought it up, it was said Greenup didn't have the athletes to run a spread offense. Now, I may be in the minority, but I don't think you have to have too many pure athletes to run the spread, sure it helps, but not a must have. It gives your players the ball in space so they can get what they can get. A decent line helps, but again, not a must, quick short passes negates some of the line play.

 

A belly option? It is one of the offense that is said to not need as many pure athletes. A great line is not needed, nice to have, but not a must. The misdirection helps the lines, and if you have a weakness, then you can fake the dive and run QB keeper, or pitch. I have heard, and seen this offense ran almost to perfection with one good athlete, and several guys who can contribute.

 

What offense fits at Greenup County? Most offenses are convertible to your personnel. Most offenses are multifaceted to exploit the weaknesses of your opponents. What fits?

Ram, I am not sure that the current offense is the wrong one for Greenup. True, there doesn't seem to be a passing game but Ashland's defense was just too swarming for Greenup to block. I think a true test for Greenup will be this week against Russell who, from what has been reported, is not as quick as Ashland.

Sam Hunter, IF he works hard and has the right attitude, can be a special QB

 

Carter-the only surprise was he didn't get more touches, but then again they did not need him to carry it more(did he have one ankle heavily taped?)

AHS needs Will Skaggs to put the pads on. Lack of PAT/Field Goal kicker will eventually haunt them.

I agree. If Sam keeps working hard, people will be talking about him before this year is over. By the time he is a senior, I think he will be setting new records for Ashland.

As good as Ashland looked, I still think they have earned a week off. Graybeard, what do you think about taking them to Gatlinburg and getting them back here sometime Sunday?

A big Thank you, also can honestly say the officals did a great job,Ashland won and Congrats to them. Now Greenup needs to move on focuse on this weeks game. Too many times we, as fans, can lose our sense of priorities and get caught up in the heat of the moment. Its great to have the sense of competition and drive to win, but after the game is over, I hope we still can be good neighbors.

So much work has gone into the Greenup program this off season. I would be surprised if the fans didn’t maintain their support for this new regime.

Is that #32? He played a heck of a game and was always near the ball. I thought the overall linebacker play was the highlight of the team's play Friday night. He and Alber are a tough tandem for anyone to try and block.
