September 28, 200916 yr ...by the way, I'm not trying to knock the NKYFL in any way. I was a Spartan, and proud of it. I just think that, specifically for the 7th and 8th graders, a team that has direct involvement with a high school program and is developing the players as a feeder program is going to be more beneficial for kids that age. Particularly when their goal is to be involved in the high school's program in a year or two.

I'd love to see Ludlow get a team, and frankly, I think the Middle School Football League is more beneficial than the NKYFL for the kids that age who want to play high school ball, but how do you think that would all play out with the Ludlow NKYFL team? Would you be able to get enough support? Would you put the NKYFL senior division under? I know that the Cov Cath middle school teams, in particular, have had a pretty hard impact on the Spartans and Dixie Raiders... Just some things to consider. It has also hit the Ludlow program. The St.Agnes kids played for Ludlow . Ludlow does not have a senior team this year.

No doubt there had been St. Agnes boys on the Ludlow team, but I always thought that, for the most part, St. Agnes players were in the Bengal Tigers' district.

I think if you took 6,7,8 graders and they knew the ones that started over them forever were playing somewhere else you'd get enough out. You might play a REALLY young team and not be overly competitive for a while, but ultimately you could pull it off. A big reason not enough Ludlow kids are there now is becuase they fade out of the sport when kids from other schools start and they get no P.T. Every year because of that you have kids in Ludlow High Schools stands that could be starting if they had the gear on, but gave it up early. That's part of what the middle school program is trying to avoid. It'd be a work in progress, but I do think it's possible.:thumb:

Isn't it better to have more young players playing? Yes, I think the multiple leagues are appreciated...to a point. My thoughts on that are (and this is personal opinion) that the NKYFL does indeed do a great job teaching the youngsters the basics, but that they are not as effective when they get to the senior (7/8 grade) level. I think, for kids who want to honestly pursue high school footbal, that their best bet for development is to get involved with a the BCPWFL or NKYFL as a youngster, and then move on to the Middle School League once they have determined what high school program they're going to go to. Granted, for those living in Fort Thomas, it's a little different with their youth league, which I'd also add is a great system, but for the other folks, youth leage, then middle school league would be my plan for success.
September 30, 200916 yr I have seen some middle school coaching. Most of the time it is a far less experienced coach with a middle school team. If the coach does do well they promote them to varsity. All the good coaches are at varsity. I personally would like to coach with a varsity team but can't make the practice times due to work. Plus, most of the NKYFL coaches are very good but since they are not school teachers but know the game they can provide some great insight and can be at a practice at 6pm versus after school. Look at the resumes of those coached. As a parent which would you prefer? I vote to get the best coaching and his skills will show up at varsity. High school coaches just want more players to have more options. they can teach sophs to learn their system.

October 3, 200916 yr CovCath #1 24 Campbell County 6 CovCath #1 looked impressive as they also had two TD's called back. Just wondering why Campbell County MS didn't play #27 the young man with the golden shoes more on "O"? The play of the game (IMO) was the CovCath outside DB #1 making a open field tackle on a player much, much bigger than him, because if the young man doesn't make this one v one tackle, the Camels runner is gone. I hope somebody got a picture of the tackle because the young man's tackle could be made into a training film CovCath #2 beat Newport and the CovCath RB #8 sure impressed me a ton. The little seventh grader looks like a water bug as he cuts and moves. Also the CovCath seventh grade QB impressed me with his passes!

Summit View best player (RB) was out with the flu, and they lost to Holmes 12-0. I really didn't understand the SV coach calling time out twice with less than twenty seconds on the clock and Holmes leading by a score of 6-0 and needing only one yard to score a TD. I guess he was hoping for a fumble but...... :idunno:
