Campbell 7th beat Bracken County last night 12-6. I heard that most of the Bracken boys were 8th graders. Not sure why they are not playing in the small school division.

I'm sure Bracken County just scheduled CC, they are not in any division(small or large) and never have been. They play teams along the lines of Lewis County,Nicholas County,etc.

I think its a good thing for high schools to have middle school football teams. I am still trying to figure out however how schools can have a middle school football team, when they don't even have a middle school like CovCath. Something about that is just not right. IMO all it is, is a pure recruiting tool, because if you can get a kid in the football program in middle school. There is a better chance that they will stay to play there for high school. I just really do not think that is right still. If a team is going to have a middle school football team, then they need to have a middle school.

I have no problem with Cov Cath, NCC, Brossart having middle school teams. I love the game of football and I think all young men should have the opportunity to play whether they attend CCMS, St. Joe's, St. Mary's, or anywhere else.

 

Red Devils and the other NKYFL teams are not for everyone so this gives others an option.

 

Parents and kids are going to make decisions either way. If they have a good experience in middle school football, and that contributes to their decision on a high school, so be it.

 

At the end of the day, it leads to better football being played across NKY which is fine with me:thumb:

From what I can tell, each team plays 7 regular season games (6 against their division and 1 cross-divisional game). The top 4 teams make the playoffs in each division. #1 plays #4 and #2 plays #3 in the semis on 10/10 with the finals on 10/17.

So you are upset that a kid who attends a Catholic Grade/Middle School, plays for a Catholic High School? I am a bit confused.....The kids who attend the Catholic Grade/Middle School, can't play for the public middle school team, so where do you want him (them) to play football at?

All it is is purely a recruiting tool, to try to help make sure that kid does end up attending that school for high school as well.

I mean kids were still playing football way before CovCath ever got their middle school team. There are places for kids to play if they wanted to.

What I have a problem with is schools having middle school teams when they don't even have a middle school. I mean people talk about how they don't like how some schools bend the rules when it comes to recruiting and needs to be stopped. Then you got the whole public vs. private debate. Where it seems that private schools definitely do better on the playing field usually. Now we are allowing these schools to even have middle school teams, even without having a middle school. All this is, is a recruiting tool. I really don't know how you can argue that. I mean not all kids who attend catholic schools growing up end up going to catholic high schools as well. I have known plenty who switched to public schools after attending catholic schools their whole life growing up. However now all this does is give schools like CovCath a better chance to even have more kids decide to come to CovCath because they enjoyed playing football for them in middle school. Thats all that is for is to try to help get more kids in the program early, so there is a better chance that they stay there as well. Its just a very smart recruiting tool.

Now before you say what about that other 0.1%, I think you will find them at Beechwood, HHS and or any of the open enrollment HS in Kenton County, where they have that 0.1% also. In fact even your dear Ludlow back in my day, had that .1% from Bromley, who went to Ludlow only because they thought they had a better chance of playing sports there, than at Dixie!

The Red Devils play close to 16 games a year. 4 previews and 9 regular season games, 2 playoff games and 1 super bowl game. Plus 4 scrimmages during the year.

I think every player would play at least 12 of those games and all scrimmages, at a worst case scenario. How many games does the CCYFL and middle school teams play?

When I hear a person make comments on another program it seems to me a parent is not happy because:

 

1. Parent doesn't get to coach

2. Child isn't the star.

3. The parent doesn't get to make his boy quarterback.

4. Or All of the above.
