Colbert - Tickles my funnybone way more than the other three; I just wish he'd lose the wristbands.

 

Stewart - I watch during the runup to elections, that's about it.

 

Maher - I like him all right, but don't have HBO; so the only time I see him is when one of his old standup shows airs on something like Comedy Central.

 

Beck - Is he trying to be funny, or does it just turn out that way?

 

Beck is not trying to be funny, but he is so ridiculous that it becomes funny.

Wrong again, my favorite comedian is George Carlin and he sure made fun of Bush, it's just he was actually funny and good at it. So much for that theory. :lol:

I think Jon Stewart is a very funny guy but the political research and evidence his show provides is ten times funnier in itself. You don't have to think he's funny for his show to be hilarious. For me the only two places I now like to get my political news is from the Daily Show, The Courier Journal or from the BBC to be honest. All of the 'News Networks' are pretty awful imo with way too much bias based in their advertising and funding whether it be from the left or right.

Am I the only one who thinks that Beck wasn't necessarily being inconsistent in his remarks? (At least the ones shown by Stewart.) Isn't it possible that the US has the best healthcare in the world and yet problems still exist in the system? I've certainly have had good and bad experiences with people in a number of professions. Have all the doctors, lawyers, police officers, teachers or accountants you have encountered in your life been either universally good or universally bad? Were there no exceptions? Isn't it possible for me to criticize a professor at Harvard, Yale or Stanford and yet still claim that those institutions are some of the best institutions of higher learning in the world? Am I a hypocrit for believing Noam Chomsky is a complete loon but MIT is a great univerisity?

I did read an article by him once, but he refused to respond to my inquiry about where he got his statistics.

 

I need to retract this statement. It was NOT Glenn Beck, it was some guy named Glenn Sacks.

Bill Maher comes across as the type of fellow who thinks his stuff smells like roses. I don't much care for him. Glenn Beck is about as real as a blonde in Hollywood. Jon Stewart is funny, although most of his humor comes from just stating the obvious about our government. Most right wingers do not like JS because he ripped on Bush for so long but had no problem when he was ripping on Clinton and Gore. He has always ripped on whoever needed it and has done so on Obama and the others (The New Administration seem to have a sense of humor at least). Most ultra conservatives and Ultra liberals have no sense of humor when it comes to them. Those in the middle seem to be the most open minded to humor. The right wingers and left wingers tend to be hypocrits. George Carlin was funny but he was a bit self righteous at times.

It looks like Beck's show is down about 20 advertisers.

Beck's show continues to beat the other cable news competitors (combined) in the 5 pm time slot.

And his first show back from surgery Beck said "I have seen our (healthcare) system at it's best and now I have experienced it at its worst."

 

Also a week after his surgery Beck posted this on his website:

 

"My doctors are Littlejohn and McClain from Stamford, Connecticut and they are the best of the best. These guys are absolutely amazing. I have the best team of doctors you can imagine. "

 

Finally, on July 15, only 1 month ago, Glenn Beck said "America has the best health care system in the world. It does! Oh, is it perfect? No!"

 

So Beck did make some blanket statements about health care both recently and shortly after he had the surgery. But in each case he quickly followed those statements with other statements which militated against the severity of his blanket statements. IMHO, Beck is an easy target because Beck is prone to hyperbole. A characteristic of Beck that Stewart ruthlessly exploits. However, one gets the impression that many of Stewart's watchers believe Stewart exposes people for who they "really are" when in truth Stewart does not and has no interest in providing and complete an accurate assessment of the views of his targets. He just wants to present his political views clothed in the best comedy he can.
