We are coming off eight years of a GOP president, one who is about as worthy of ridicule as anyone in history. Rightys took Stewart's criticism personally, and most are convinced Stewart's barbs were only because he's a liberal and Bush wasn't.

 

Best I can tell from the past few months is that Stewart (I quit watching the show several years ago, not because I don't think JS is funny, but because I'm just fed up with politics) is doing his fair share of letting Obama and the Dems have it as well, which is what I figured would happen. But that probably won't soften most rightys' stance on him, because they've already convinced themselves he's not funny because of their hurt feelings over Bush.

To be technically proficient at an instrument doesn't make you a good musician. I personally believe the music you create is what makes you a good musician. When I was 10 I took lessons and was technically proficient at playing Pop Goes the Wessel on a guitar. That doesn't mean I was anything close to a good musician.

For many leftys I'm sure they found JS more endearing because of his criticism of Bush and the GOP. By no means are rightys the only guilty ones of engaging in one-way behavior. I can't tell you how many libbies I've called nuts for saying Ted Nugent's music sucked or that Charlton Heston wasn't a good actor.

Some find just about anything funny or entertaining, I'd put most Stewart fans in this class. Just my opinion, just as it's your opinion that Stewart is funny.

Bill Mayer is funny sometimes...but I can see why some people hate him. Glenn Beck is not funny...ever. Well not on purpose anyways.

 

I agree that Beck isn't funny, although I don't think he really tries to be. Mayer is a jerk, but no more of one than Beck IMO.

As to Mayer being funny, comedy is like beauty, as beauty is in the eye of the beholder one can also say that comedy is in the ear of the beholder. To each our own, that's what makes life fun.

However, I think it says a lot about our current media when a comedian gives one of the more substantive and biting interviews. He's usually very soft on those in his ideological proximity, but when an opponent is on they really need their game face. From a few recent interviews I remember, he walked Bill Kristol into the admission that the government provides the best health care in this country and he thoroughly dismantled Jim Cramer.

Colbert can be much funnier then Stewart but I can only take him in small amounts. He gets on my nerves pretty quick. Stewart is ok but definitely not one of my favorites.
