August 10, 200917 yr Most don't know, or have even met their "That is one Brave person", well I knew mine and I was proud to call him my best friend! Steven Dale Tanner: Was a resident of Bromley and casualty of the Vietnam War. Tanner was born on February 10, 1950 to Mr. And Mrs. Wilbert Tanner. The family lived at 109 Moore Street. Steve Tanner attended Dixie Heights High School, where he graduated in 1968. Tanner played football, basketball and track at Dixie. He was also a member of the Bromley Volunteer Fire Department and the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Bromley. Tanner turned down a couple of college scholarship to join the Marines in 1968. Tanner was stationed in Vietnam in January 1969 at the Cunningham Support Base near Laos. He was killed in action on February 19, 1969, nine days after his 19th birthday. I always played in the Tanner Memorial tournament but was never aware of the story behind Steve Tanner. :thumb:

August 10, 200917 yr Not the word of the innocent women and children that he killed or took prisoner? You are digging way into this one. You don't think he was brave and that's fine. Ive seen multiple times where his enemies talked about how brave he was. I never said I morally agree with him. The thread asked about brave people in history. I'm going to take his enemies word.

May 11, 201115 yr Randy Shugart & Gary Gordon. Both were Delta Force operators who were killed after requesting to be dropped in to protect the pilot of a downed helicopter during the Battle of Mogadishu in 1993. They knowingly put themselves in front of an estimated 100-150 angry and armed hostiles with only the ammunition they had on themselves, and both died in the process of protecting the helicopter pilot's life.
May 11, 201115 yr Irena Sendler: A Polish Catholic social worker who was ordered to go into the Warsaw Ghetto to inspect conditions during a typhoid outbreak. She organized the smuggling of Jewish children out of the Ghetto, carrying them out in boxes and suitcases. She helped smuggle out 2,500 children. She was eventually caught by the Germans, tortured, and sentenced to death. She survived when the organization she was part of successfully bribed two German guards ordered to execute her. They beat her until her arms and legs were all broken and left her unconscious in the woods.

May 11, 201115 yr My old man. Went into Korea at Inchon, left 251 days later. Fought to the Yalu River and back to the 38th parallel.
