Hey, thought I was doing my part. Taking part in the clunker program, buying from one of our struggling automakers. I feel like I was played. Like I said, never again.

I honestly skimmed your title and read, "I bought an American". I thought, "Hm, that can't be legal."

After a long series of American cars that nickel-and-dimed me to death, I bought a VW. It's run for 180K, with a bare minimum of repairs needed. I'll keep it when I get my next car because it's a perfect work vehicle for me (a tank of gas can last 2-3 weeks).

 

While a lot of "foreign" cars are now made in the US (or Mexico or Canada), what you get when you avoid American cars is not just the better workmanship, but also better engineering in most cases, as well as a greater attention to detail that many US automakers sacrificed in order to squeeze out a few extra pennies.

 

If I ever get another American car, it will be something from the mid-70s and before. My dream is to have another 1976 98 Olds (only this time a convertible, and totally tricked out) for cruising purposes once money ceases to be an issue for me.

Have had 3 Accords. Best vehicles on the road IMO.

We bought a Lexus 350 in 2006 (2007 model). We love it! My wife is the primary driver and I am thinking of buying a larger SUV in the Lexus brand. They also have a great service department. We live 120 miles from Nicholasville and they drive to us and leave a Lexus loaner to drive while routine maintenance or an unfortunate repair is needed. We may drive the loaner for as long as needed. They treat you right!:thumb:

I’m sure now that the government and unions own two the three automakers things will improve.

 

Seriously though, your experience with Dodge really sucks. I bought a used Dodge 1500 and have had several issues over the last three or four years. Nothing as major as yours, but it always seems to be something. The best vehicles I’ve owned have been Chevys, but I’ve never owned a Toyota or Honda. I just might buy a Toyota next since they seem to have a good reputation.

Traded in an 89 Mercedes. Bought it cheap 3 years ago. Still ran well. Had to replace a ball joint a couple of months back. Just couldn't pass up what they were giving me for it. I guess I'm not surprised, more upset than anything. You would think with the technology of today, QC would catch a defect in a cylinder. Especially a hole.

The 90 Corrolla I bought new is still on the road. The 99 Windstar is not. Pretty much says it all.

Why does everyone have a bad taste for American owned automakers? Usually because they get front page exposure when there is a problem. If you look at recent Toyota and Honda recalls (and yes there have been a few!) you are lucky if you read about them in the back of the want ads. Conspiracy? Favoritizism? Payoffs? who knows - you decide.

Girlfriend bought an Accord......blew up on the 1hr drive home.......oil pump was defective. Dealer said it was a supplier problem and had happened a few times before........
