June 29, 200917 yr Wall St. "swindler" Bernie Madoff was just sentenced to 150 years in prison. Obviously a life sentence and imo the judge used the maximum sentence to send a message. I for one applaud this ruling and am glad that old thief wil spen the rest of his lousy life in prison. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090629/ap_on_bi_ge/us_madoff_scandal

June 30, 200917 yr His poor wife has to sell their 7million dollar apartment as well as their beach homes. Why does she need to sell?
June 30, 200917 yr U.S. District Judge Denny Chin cited the unprecedented nature of the multibillion-dollar fraud as he sentenced Madoff to the maximum of 150 years in prison, a term comparable only to those given in the past to terrorists, traitors and the most violent criminals. There is no parole in federal prison so Madoff will most likely die there. "Here, the message must be sent that Mr. Madoff's crimes were extraordinarily evil and that this kind of irresponsible manipulation of the system is not merely a bloodless financial crime that takes place just on paper, but it is instead ... one that takes a staggering human toll," Chin said. Extraordinarily evil? This judge ain't seen nothing if that's his definition of extraordinarily evil.

I don't know if the term extraordinary fits but the intent behind his scheme is definitely wrong and I do feel the punishment fits the crime. If, he would have not tried to mail checks and send "gifts" to family and friends to get rid of some of the evidence and if he would have actually said he was sorry and wrong to his clients (when this came out), maybe I could have some compassion. Apologizing at sentencing is the wrong time.........too little too late.

June 30, 200917 yr I have been very intrigued by this whole Madoff saga. I really have a hard time believing his wife or others extremely close to him had no knowledge of what was happening. It was said this morning on the Today show that Mrs. Madoff is down to the final 2 1/2 million.

Deliberately ruining peoples lives and what they have worked for their whole lives is pretty evil.
June 30, 200917 yr Just think about these numbers for a second here.... Madoff, who has been jailed since March, already has taken a severe financial hit: Last week, a judge issued a preliminary $171 billion forfeiture order stripping Madoff of all his personal property, including real estate, investments, and $80 million in assets his wife Ruth had claimed were hers. The order left her with $2.5 million that couldn't be tied to the fraud.
