Vince Carter to the Magic

Featured Replies

They offered Hedo an extension and he said no thanks. If he comes back I'm guessing it will be for far less than they offered him originally. So he's not coming back more than likely. They replaced his numbers by trading their 6th and 7th best players.

I understand that and would agree that Carter is a great addition for what they gave up if Hedo is not coming back.

Anyway Boston could afford to add Hedo to their lineup?

I cannot believe people are actually arguing Turkoglu or Carter. Are there that many people who do not like him because he was a Tar-Heel? Just wondering, I am as big as Cats fan as you will meet, and I can be acused of hating numerous players based on their college choices. But do you guys honestly and really feel Carter isn't good or hasn't been good, or do you just not like him because he wore powder blue?

I think Carter is a great talent, I actually sorta liked the UNC teams he was on (Jamison was one of my favorite college players ever), and he is still good. I just don't think he helps the Magic.

Do the people who are saying this is a bad deal understand that they tried to negotiate a deal w/ Turk but he turned them down telling them he was going to become a free agent? So they turned their 6th best player and a useless backup PG into a guy that is athletic and can easily score at least 18 ppg and that's supposed to be bad for them?

I"m not arguing that. I'm arguing that I feel they are better with Turk than with Carter. Carter is a better player, Turk is the better fit.

If they do not get Hedo back than this move will suffice to replace him.

But Carter does not improve this team in any area but scoring. Defensively, the Lakers was a better team and adding Carter does not make the Magics any better defensively but rather probably weakens them.

They are not a better rebounding team with Carter and I am not convinced that adding Carter over Hedo makes them better 1/2 court offensively.

I agree.

I remember Malone and Payton being added to a Lakers lineup and everyone handing them a trophy. They did not win one.

Who in that lineup is going to play defensive night in and night out or even on the great scale of the playoffs. LeBron, Wade, Pierce, there is no one in that lineup to stop them, stop Rondo.

Plus, there is not enough basketballs to go around on that team. Howard complained this playoffs about not enough touches and you are going to add Sheed AND Carter. Team chemistry will become like this year's Pistons when AI got added to the team.

The points you've made are exactly what I was thinking. I was thinking of that Lakers team as well. Once again I agree.

Maybe if they could dump some salary. Garnett (21 Mil), Pierce (18 Mil) and Allen (18 Mil) almost take them over the cap single-handledly. The rest of the team doesn't kill the cap, but they would have to find a deal for Allen that would give them a few contracts that they could buy out. I don't know that they could get that done or that Turk for Allen would be a good deal.

The have the MLE, but Turk wants more than 5.8 Million or whatever that is. He's looking for 50 million over 5 years.

Bad move, Turkoglu was the Magic's most important offensive player, he ran that offense masterfully.

Just because we don't think he fits as well with Orlando as Turkoglu doesn't mean we think he isn't good.

Nobody thought Malone and Payton weren't good players, but they didn't make LA better.

It's about chemistry, not individual talent.

I don't see Orlando getting back to the Finals. Not a big VC fan.

Well Malone had played for about 350 years before he got to LA and Payton had played for almost 300. But I'll agree, VC is a heck of a player, probably a HOF, but I wouldn't take him over Turk in Orlando.

Turks gone guys, its not like they chose Vince over him, he chose to opt. out. The Magic instead of sticking with Lee, went and got Carter, nice move IMO.

They offered him an extension and he said no. What should they have done next? Kidnapping is illegal in Florida.

Nelson will "run" their offense when he's fully healthy. I think Carter might make them better actually the more I think about it. He's a capable 3 point shooter, but a more athletic slasher that can cut when his man helps off. Last year they would have 4 guys stand around the line and Howard. Next year they can do the same but add a bit better of a slasher.

I guess time will tell. Nelson in the P & R will be good, it's a different look than Turk, as he was tall enough to be effective really no matter what the defense did.

The major problem I have with Carter in their offense is that he can be like a LeBron, DWade, TMac...a "floor beater" with the basketball. Those types of players like to take their time to set up individually setting up for a crossover or some other move. That's not Orlando's game. Can Vince fit in? He can. But the offense will change a little bit, and that could be for the better or worse. Also, if they are going to get better, with/without VC it will be determined on if Howard gets a post game or not. If he still has only 1 or 2 moves they will not win the East.

VC, while he has been a me-first player at times, will not come to the Eastern Conference Champions (and his hometown team) and say 'change your offensive style to the way that I play.' Just wait and see. I'm not sure if this team will make it back to the finals, but I think they will be better with Carter.

Wouldn't they have to change out of necessity? I don't know if you want VC just standing around shooting threes, or dictating the offense from the pick and roll. Honestly, you may see more of a Cleveland type offense with Orlando once they get slowed down in the 1/2 court. That would be the best IMO because of their shooters and VC's skill set.....oh yeah, and DHoward down low.

I know they did, but I still think they should have given him as much money as possible. Turkoglu is a 6'10 small forward, which most of the time will be tough to match up with. Turkoglu gave the Magic great size, that was something that caused such problems for the Cavs. With Carter, they go back to just being a normal sized team; I just think they should have spent as much money on him as possible. He was the most important player to that offense.

Let's not get out of hand here w/ Turk. He's pretty good and that's as far as it goes. It's been mentioned in many threads. This team goes as far as Howard next year. If he develops into unstoppable they are beasts. If he just develops into a major threat they are way better. The dropoff if there is one from Turk to Carter is not much if at all. A healthy Nelson makes them better than Alston can too. They will be really good. If the Celtics are serious about changing things or if KG isn't as good as he was the year before last it's a 2 team race in the East anyhow.

It's pretty funny how those who think this was a bad move are making Turk out to be the greatest player alive. Carter will more than make up for everything Turk did for the Magic. If they can get Sheed, you might as well hand them the East.

I just don't think VC fits well as a "team" guy anywhere. Maybe he will prove me wrong. As for your comment about getting Sheed and winning the East, I disagree with that as well.
