June 29, 200917 yr I just don't think VC fits well as a "team" guy anywhere. Maybe he will prove me wrong. As for your comment about getting Sheed and winning the East, I disagree with that as well. Me, too. I think Sheed coming to the Magic is akin to AI going to the Pistons.
June 29, 200917 yr Me, too. I think Sheed coming to the Magic is akin to AI going to the Pistons. Not even close to the same thing. The Pistons gave up their best player for AI, obviously they were getting worse. The Magic will not have to give up anything for Sheed. Come on, name me a starting 5 that is anywhere close to what the Magic could run out next season.... 1-Nelson 2-Carter 3-Lewis 4-Wallace 5-Howard

June 29, 200917 yr On paper that is a lot of talent, I just don't think it would be a lot of team. I hope your kidding?
June 29, 200917 yr Let's not get out of hand here w/ Turk. He's pretty good and that's as far as it goes. It's been mentioned in many threads. This team goes as far as Howard next year. If he develops into unstoppable they are beasts. If he just develops into a major threat they are way better. The dropoff if there is one from Turk to Carter is not much if at all. A healthy Nelson makes them better than Alston can too. They will be really good. If the Celtics are serious about changing things or if KG isn't as good as he was the year before last it's a 2 team race in the East anyhow. No one is making Turk out to be anything different. We'll be right on this one, I'm almost positive on that. Talent cannot and is not everything in basketball. Chemistry is very important, possibly equally important. Losing Turk makes them more easily for the Cavs to defend without major changes. They can either sign a PF or trade Varajao for a PF that can cover more ground. Delonte West can guard most starting 2's, ask Joe Johnson. I still think the Cavs get a bigger two, but it won't be necessity. Those two positions got the Magic past the Cavs they have lost one of those advantages. Carter is probably still a better player than Turkoglu, but he is easier to match up with. It's been a few years since he was Air Canada. As for the Celtics, I think if they stand pat they have to be the favorites as of now. Magic were really exposed by the Lakers, who were really exposed by the Lakers when they were healthy. It's pretty funny how those who think this was a bad move are making Turk out to be the greatest player alive. Carter will more than make up for everything Turk did for the Magic. If they can get Sheed, you might as well hand them the East. Yeah, since Sheed is so awesome right now. Adding Sheed and VC makes them an easier target for Boston and Cleveland because it puts Lewis at the 3. Sheed can stretch the floor but he either post up or shoots threes, but at this stage really doesn't do much else. He cannot be the threat from the 4 that Lewis is when he is outside of the paint. I just don't think VC fits well as a "team" guy anywhere. Maybe he will prove me wrong. As for your comment about getting Sheed and winning the East, I disagree with that as well. Rookie, I believe this is one of the first times that we have seen eye to eye. Not even close to the same thing. The Pistons gave up their best player for AI, obviously they were getting worse. The Magic will not have to give up anything for Sheed. Come on, name me a starting 5 that is anywhere close to what the Magic could run out next season.... 1-Nelson 2-Carter 3-Lewis 4-Wallace 5-Howard Um..... Rondo, Allen, Pierce, Garnett, Perkins Fisher, Bryant, Ariza, Odom, Gasol (I know Odom doesn't start but he plays starter minutes) Parker, Jefferson, Ginobili, Duncan, (who ever else) Billups, JR Smith (Jones will probably walk in FA), Anthony, Martin, Nene. I also feel that the Cavs will make some more big moves. The Magic have a great lineup on paper, but 1. Nelson is a one year (actually 1/2) major producer. How do we know that he is a legit all-star? 16 and 5 don't exactly scream Steve Nash or CP3 to me. 2. Wallace and Carter aren't in their primes. A 26 year old Carter and a 28 year old Wallace obviously would look alot better. 3. Lewis and Howard are great, but are really simplified in what they can do offensively. On paper the Magic are better than last year, and possibly anyone else. In reality I seriously doubt if they are.
June 29, 200917 yr No one is making Turk out to be anything different. We'll be right on this one, I'm almost positive on that. Yes they are. Also Carter isn't exactly short. The 2 or so inches he is shorter than Turk he makes up for by being more athletic and faster. It's almost laughable to say West can guard a big guard b/c he shut down Joe Johnson. Atlanta was destroyed by injuries and they had nobody healthy including Johnson for the whole series. Name someone on that team that commands a double team like Howard. Howard opens up things for everyone on that team. If they get Wallace he may come off the bench or he'll be the first starter to leave the game. Either way he's perfect for them. A big body that can knock down outside shots and he has a ton of playoff experience who will step it up a notch in the post season and coast in during the regular season. He will know he's nothing close to the man on that team. The Celtics are awfully OLD and KG's knee might be done. He's got a lot of miles for a guy his size who never took a minute off in a game. Their GM is either shopping their starting PG who they have absolutely no chance at winning a title if he's not there or publically calling him out to the point that his agent is talking about being gone. The Cavs are rolling the dice w/ a guy that was last dominant 5 years or so ago. He's brutally bad at guarding the pick and roll and that's what they couldn't guard. They have one guy they can count on th it shots in big situations. They might get bigger and more athletic wings. If they don't Orlando on paper is still better than them in a series unless LBJ goes to another level.

The only one close is the Spurs, and that's if those guys all stay healthy, which has been a big issue lately.

Okay. Celts have 3 HOF players and a potential all-star in Rondo. That is about equal if not better than what the Magic trot out there, in 2 HOF, and 3 players who have been all-star level at some point in their careers. They are better at every position other than Center. Carter and Allen are about even at this stage, but I'll take Allen's shooting, savvy and championship experience over Carter. I'm not a Rondo fan, but IMO he is more talented than Nelson he's just not as polished. Pierce is better than Lewis, and Garnett makes Rasheed look like Kwame Brown. Outside of Pietrus the Celtics bench is much better as well. Spurs have a top 10-15 all-time player in Duncan, a probable HOF player in Parker, highly skilled Ginobili and Jefferson who is a pretty good wing player. I'll take Parker over Nelson, Duncan over Rasheed, Ginobili over Carter (now). I would take Lewis over Jefferson and Howard obviously over whoever the Spurs trout out at Center. Lakers have a top 5-7 player of all-time, a potential HOF'er in Gasol, one of the most uniquely talented players in the league in Odom, and two young and talented players in Bynum and Ariza. Oh yeah, and they're the defending champs. Fisher's experience also makes up a little for the skill and talent that he lacks on Nelson. The Nuggets are very talented, maybe not as talented on paper as the Magic, but at least we have seen them play together and play well.

They only have to worry about the Lakers, Spurs, or Nuggets if they are lucky enough to get to the finals. So lets look at the East. Cleveland has to improve on the wings or Lebron has to go crazy. The Cletics are Old and I'm not even sure that describes them. I'm still confused why people are killing the Carter deal. They did everything the could to keep Turk. He said no thanks. They traded their starting SG and backup PG (who might be a head case if he didn't get enough minutes) for a guy who might be as capable of a scorer as Turk. It was a phenominal trade for them.

Celtics weren't too old to take Orlando to 7 games without Garnett. With Turk not coming back it was a good trade for them. But, I still feel that they will take a step back. Heck, the Knicks and Grizzlies made a trade the other day but it's not like we have to feel that either one got better of the deal. The Magic replaced the key to their offense for an aging HOF'er. Carter adds more talent to the equation but I, along with several others on here feel that they may have given up parts of their offense that made them so tough to defend.
June 29, 200917 yr On Feb. 22, 2007, Smith said: "I'm not going to take a step back and fall for what I call fool's gold. It shines and it glitters, but it just doesn't stick or pass the test." Can anybody tell me who Otis Smith was talking about when he said that less than two years ago? And, bonus points to the person who can tell me what the rumored trade was that brought about that quote.

You are totally looking at it from an offensive standpoint. That does not win championships. I see an undersized point guard that is going to have trouble against a guard in the post, a shooting guard who has never shown a commitment to defense or rebounding, a power forward playing at the small forward, a power forward that will have trouble covering the perimeter and a dribble drive and a young but good center that is a good defensive player.
