South Carolina Governor goes astray.

Missing from the humor is the sad realization that this is a huge blow for a Republican party already plagued by hypocrisy. Sandford was one of the few guys who was well-liked and stayed true to the supposed values of the GOP.

It's tough to find a good Republican candidate nowadays. Republicans, the party of Christians, small government, and strong foreign policy, give us candidates that have sex scandals, spending problems, and a tendency to lie to the public. There are few candidates left....

It's important to let these guys self destruct and cut them loose. The sooner the better.

Conan had the funniest quote on this, ... it was something along the lines of this:

In my best Madonna voice:

"Don't Cry For Me Argentina . . ."

:D

I sure didn't know the Appalachian Trail extended into South America.

I would fully expect to see "Hiking the Trail" to become a)a big hit t-shirt in SC and/or b)a new euphemism for chasing women.

The only true "sad" aspect of this revolves around 4 boys who now have to listen to their dad being ridiculed.

Exactly.

I think they should impeach Sanford. He basically walked out on his job without telling anyone. If I left my job for 5 days and no one knew where I was, I wouldn't have a job to come back to.

I am leaning toward this opinion. I don't think that his infidelity is anyone's business except his and his family's, but when you are MIA from your job as an elected official, I believe that you need to answer for yourself.

Agreed. But who's left standing?

No doubt this guy needs to resign. If your family cannot trust you, no way the public can trust you.

Follow my line of thinking on it TBG.

1. Beyond his faith to God, a man's number 1 relationship should be with his family. Others should be able to judge the character of the man by his responsibility to his family.

2. If a man will set aside this number 1 relationship, than what and how easy will he set aside relationships and trust in other things that are of LESSER importance.

3. If a man cannot be trusted by his family because he has thrown away their trust in him for something that he wanted, how can the public think that this same man will not turn on them and throw the trust that they have in him away for something that benefits him.

I heard a businessman say he would never hire and would fire someone that was cheating on their wife. If they would lie and cheat on her, he would do it to him and his business too.

I understand your point of view and respect it. I just think tha some people keep certain aspects of their lives quite separate. You can be a lousy husband and a great governor. You can be terrible teacher and a great father.

Also, I think that some portray a deeper relationship with God than they really have. It seems like a theme with politicians.

Lastly, few people are perfect in all aspects of their lives. Making a mistake in one does not necessarily translate into making a mistake in another.

I agree that it does not necessarily translate into that BUT it sure gives an indication of the character of that person and how important that place staying loyal to the relationships in their lives.

I again state, if he is willing to through away his relationship with his family what in the world would make a voter think that he will stay loyal to them as a politician?

Walking the Appalachia Trail will probably take on a whole new meaning in the English language after this incident. :sssh:
