June 25, 200917 yr ^ He still hit about .300 during those times which is a lot better than WT.For a leadoff-type hitter, on-base percentage is more important than batting average. Believe me ... it won't take much for the Reds to land Pierre. The Dodgers will practically give him away to rid themselves of that contract.

I don't really like him as the answer to our problems though.Pierre has hit better than Taveras this year, but from an offensive standpoint, they have been essentially the same player over the last four years ... a point I made here when the Reds signed Taveras over the winter. Actually, Taveras' defense and arm may make him the better player, plus he's more than four years younger (and considerably cheaper) than Pierre.
June 25, 200917 yr Hasn't Pierre said this year that he doesn't care if he is the last player off the bench, he doesn't care- he just wants to contribute and win? I'm not sure if he'll want out, at least publicly he has been showing a good attitude.
June 25, 200917 yr Not sure if it has been reported here, but Homer Bailey likely to start on Saturday. Homer Bailey(notes) is likely to start for the Reds at Cleveland on Saturday. The 23-year-old has a career 7.01 ERA in the majors, but he's been outstanding in his last five starts at Triple-A (38.1 IP, 2 ER, 7 BB, 38 Ks) and the fantasy community is abuzz over his new splitter. I'll withhold an official recommendation, having not actually added Bailey in any leagues. I'm willing to let him become another owner's post-hype/post-bust success story.

June 25, 200917 yr Since returning to Louisville, Bailey is 5-0 with a 0.81 ERA. After his first start back, Bailey learned to throw the split-finger fastball. He's 4-0 with 0.47 ERA since. He's allowed 30 hits, seven walks and struck out 38 in 38 1/3 innings in that span.
