Seriuosly what I'm hearing is H back, with plans to maybe drop him in the flat occasionally.

The difference in UK and UL in their dealings, or lack thereof, with Fugate is that UL offered a scholarship. UK never made the offer. Illinois, Purdue, Western, Stanford and Indiana also offered, but who could fault Fugate for going with the big boys who wear the orange.

 

And maybe that is why UK didn't offer him. Of all the colleges listed above (including UK), there is no doubt Tennessee has the best tradition and best football program regardless of the last 2-3 years. Has Fugate said PUBLICLY that he would choose UK over Tennessee?

Warrior being from Harlan County I would think you would have seen first hand what Fugate is capable of. Did you miss the play on his second touchdown against HCHS when they threw him a screen to the short side and he took it 80 yards untouched. I believe we had three kids in on that play that ran in the 4.5 range that couldn't catch him.

 

As for comparing UK to UL, I can't ever remember a kid from eastern KY just dying to go to Louisville. Fugate wanted to play for Kentucky. Not to worry though, Im sure we can loose the next 4 or 5 to Tennesse or Florida without him.

 

I may be kicking a dead horse but I was a Kentucky fan before you were born and I have seen too many times UK give no look to a kid from east KY, the heartbeat of their fan base I might add.

 

It may or may not work out for Fugate at Tennessee, but one thing is for sure...I be happy for him every good play he makes including the ones against UK. :thumb:

I'm happy that you have been a UK fan longer then I have been alive, My point is, UK has missed out on kids twice as good. And UK shouldn't offer him just because he's from Eastern Ky...

 

I'm happy where UK stands right now, With or without Fugate...And I think I stated before that I wish UK would have offered...

 

And to say HCHS had three kids with 4.5 (40), And couldn't catch him, Puts him in the 4.4 range. I know what 4.4 speed is, David Jones from Belfry had 4.4 speed, And it's not close...:ohbrother:

I would like to add, Fugate is by far the best player I have seen since I was in HS..

What position would he play for UK? It's not going to be running back. Tennessee didn't recruit him to play running back either. He'll be a hybrid fullback/tight end that will get a few carries, few catches, and primarily block. UK doesn't have that type of position in their offense. I really don't see what the big deal is...

I think UK does have that position in its offense. Not there on every down but that position is there. I still think it is primarily about Tennessee and their program's tradition. I think if you put offers from UT and UK in front of any player, UT wins 99.9% of the time. So UK is not going to waste time and resources recruiting a player with those odds staring at them.

His speed is good for the high school level, but that's an area that could use some improvement (if possible) for the collegiate level. And, it's likely the reason they want him as an H-Back instead of being in the mix at TB.

 

That fastest kid I can remember at Breathitt ran a 4.37. I don't claim to have a calibrated eyeball for 40 times, but I'd guess he's in the 4.6 range maybe.

 

I'd have liked to seen him sign with UK and move to the defensive side of the ball. I think his upside at the next level is better on that side.

I just hate to see UK miss out on legit in state players because they didn't even show interest. My complaint goes beyond this specific player. They could have used him somewhere. But, I agree with you...letting him go elsewhere won't make or break the program. As for Channing Fugate, I'll be keeping an eye on his progress and I hope he has a great career there. However, my allegiance doesn't change...I hope he gets to be a part of the first group of Vols to lose to UK in the last 25+ years.

UT offered him after a football camp...they weren't even listed as a possibility prior to that. UK, if they'd wanted him, wouldn't have been going head-to-head with UT. Is it possible the Vols could have landed him anyway? Sure. Who wouldn't want to play for a program like that? But, the UT vs. UK thing wouldn't hold near as much sway for a kid from your average EKY kid, IMO. Especially, if Brooks and company had recruited him and established a relationship.

He is not as fast as Jones and He's not as fast as Cole, BUT he weighs 230lbs. For his size he has good speed. Simmons, Gilliam, and Smith all have above average speed at the HS level, none caught him...all night for that matter. They weigh 150.

4.55 is blazing for the average HS kid...I'm thinking somewhere in the 4.6 range...

There is no way Fugate has 4.55 speed. He's a nice player, but the exaggeration gets to be a bit much sometimes.

I Bleed Blue and hate TN with a passion, I hate that I will have to be against him once a year, but I always like to see TN lose, but I would love to see a mountain boy succeed! Go Channing!! Booo Tennessee!
