I'm not knocking Fugate but Bush and Brohm were both on the national radar as far as recruiting goes and play on Sundays now. I think Fugate is more in the Beaumont and Heyman class.

 

I can understand where fans are coming from as far as recruiting EKY goes. Other than David Jones, who was recruited for defense, UK doesn't go after many EKY skill kids. Couch, Jones. Anyone else?

 

The bottom line is this. We don't know what the recruiting war room looks like at UK, UL, or anywhere else. We dont know what the coaches feel are strong needs. We dont know how many silent verbals they have from other juniors. In recent years, UK has gobbled up recruits early and had very little wiggle room later in the season when other players either back out of a committment or someone decides to transfer. This year, UK appears to be taking a more back-ended approach and waiting longer in the process. You havent heard much about their 2010 recruiting class.

I agree. And, I'm not placing Fugate on the same level as Bush and Brohm. But, he's an athlete...he could have potentially played several positions. UK could have used him somewhere. To hardly show interest is inexcusable...

 

But, its not just in this case. This is the norm for UK football. They rarely show interest in in-state kids unless they're like Couch, Brohm and Bush...guys they'll have a harder time keeping anyway.

Its not going to turn me against Brooks or UK...I'm a huge fan. And, I applaud what they've done. But, this is one area that I think they could do better that would help the program.

I remember at Paducah Tilghman a few years ago, UK went after Joe Casey and not Hunter Cantwell. Casey flamed out and Cantwell did not. These days, I see red t-shirts with that bird on the front around the PT athletic complex where 6-7 years ago, it was 4x4 blue. Not showing interest in a kid can lead to unintended consequences.

I assure you there will be some orange pop up in East Ky over this just like it did a couple of years ago in Mason County. Kentucky not recruiting this kid makes me sick to my stomach. I have talked to a lot of people about this from all over this end of the state and ALL have the same opinion, and it's not good.

 

We stick with UK through everything, probably 70 straight losses to the Power T before my lifetime is over, and our (and the kids) reward when a favorite son like Fugate comes through, is no interest from the UK. I am diehard UK as they come, but I have a feeling Eastern KY is going to have a hard time getting over this, and that's not good for UK given the amount of $$ that comes from this area. IMHO KY would have been far better off to take a chance on Fugate than to endure the fall out of not offering him......

UK was well aware of Fugate's interest. ALL UK had to do was offer a scholarship and tell him he had a shot at playing RB. But with all the starpower they have at that position, I guess they really believed he had no shot to play. :idunno:

Saw in today's paper where UK only had 2 comittments for 2010, everyone except Miss St. had 11+ . It looks like UK are trying to get the 4 and 5 star recruits and missing out on some good KENTUCKY Kids. Good Luck to Mr. Fugate on this season and all 4 at UT. Just hope it don't come back to Bite Us.

The difference in UK and UL in their dealings, or lack thereof, with Fugate is that UL offered a scholarship. UK never made the offer. Illinois, Purdue, Western, Stanford and Indiana also offered, but who could fault Fugate for going with the big boys who wear the orange.

Warrior being from Harlan County I would think you would have seen first hand what Fugate is capable of. Did you miss the play on his second touchdown against HCHS when they threw him a screen to the short side and he took it 80 yards untouched. I believe we had three kids in on that play that ran in the 4.5 range that couldn't catch him.

 

As for comparing UK to UL, I can't ever remember a kid from eastern KY just dying to go to Louisville. Fugate wanted to play for Kentucky. Not to worry though, Im sure we can loose the next 4 or 5 to Tennesse or Florida without him.

 

I may be kicking a dead horse but I was a Kentucky fan before you were born and I have seen too many times UK give no look to a kid from east KY, the heartbeat of their fan base I might add.

 

It may or may not work out for Fugate at Tennessee, but one thing is for sure...I be happy for him every good play he makes including the ones against UK. :thumb:
