June 15, 200917 yr I really just wish they could get a few legitimate opportunities to score. Just had a good one. Nice take by Sacha, just over the bar. Bring the big lads up here, corner!!!
June 15, 200917 yr Scoreline does not reflect the effort. They ran their socks off in the second half, but playing a man down was going to be very tough.
June 16, 200917 yr I believe that New Zealand qualified by winning the Oceania championship. If the soccer played in the North America and Caribbean region that we're in is subpar by world standards, then the soccer in Oceania is rotten. The winner of that region doesn't even have an automatic qualifier to the world cup (Australia plays in the Asian region). Don't get me wrong, Spain is loaded, but yeah, New Zealand is that bad. Australia's move to the Asian Football Confederation was likely the death knell for Oceania. I think you'll see Oceania combined with Asia in the next decade. After that, I look for Asia to then split into two different confederations, one east and one west. Asia is already subdivided into four separate groups as is, so the wheels already seem to be turning. This was discussed in the June issue of World Soccer. I'd expect the two confederations to look something like this: Nations that have participated in World Cup Finals in bold/italics East Asian Football Federation American Samoa, Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Chinese Taipei, Cook Islands, Fiji, Guam, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, New Caledonia, New Zealand, North Korea, Northern Mariana Islands, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Korea, Tahiti, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Vanuatu, Vietnam. West Asian Football Federation Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Maldives, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Yemen. I would guess both east and west would send two teams guaranteed to the World Cup, and then the third place finishers could play-off for a fifth spot.
June 18, 200917 yr I can't even stand to watch. U.S. soccer is actually getting worse as the World Cup approaches.
June 18, 200917 yr I can't even stand to watch. U.S. soccer is actually getting worse as the World Cup approaches. In their defense, they are playing Brazil, one of the best teams in the world. But still, one of the goals was the result of a boneheaded mistake by the US off of their corner kick, which led to Brazil getting a two on one run. Teams like Brazil don't mess up on two on one runs.

I know Brazil and Italy are top 10 teams, but a 14th-ranked team should not look as bad as the U.S. has looked recently.
June 18, 200917 yr Not sure what tournament Harkes is watching if he thinks Onyewu has had a "good" tournament.

I know Brazil and Italy are top 10 teams, but a 14th-ranked team should not look as bad as the U.S. has looked recently. Well, besides the fact that those rankings are by and large a joke, the US has consistently proven to be a far better team at home than on the road. Unfortunately for them, the World Cup is right where they are right now....
